    The UFC is going to put on a big show at MSG in the late summer/early fall. No word yet on an exact date or number.

    There are a lot of New York area fighters dying to get on this one. The obvious candidates are Jon Jones (Rochester) and Chris Weidman (Baldwin). I see both of them on the card regardless of the outcome of their upcoming bouts.

    Other fighters from NY:

    Aljo Sterling and Tamdan McCrory (Cortland), Rashad Evans (Niagara Falls), Gian Villante (Levittown), Dennis Bermudez (Saugerties), Uriah Hall (Queens), Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst), Al Iaquinta (Wantagh), Phillipe Nover (Brooklyn), Chris Wade (Long Island), and, of course, Matt Serra (East Meadow).

    Early word is they would like to get Ronda Rousey's return fight on this card as well. Luke Thomas said that the UFC could have "five main events" on the PPV card in an attempt to blow up their PPV record. Tall task given the dip in popularity since 2012.

    The UFC has cut Brazilians Daniel Sarafian and Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante.

    Cavalcante has KO wins over Mo Lawal and Yoel Romero. He went 1-4 in the UFC, all losses against ranked opponents, with his lone win coming against Igor Pokrajac.

    Ariel Helwani was fired from covering the UFC on FOX. Multiple issues arose with him maintaining his role as a journalist while working for the company he was covering. The powers that be were angry with him over his interview with Rory MacDonald in which Rory talked about looking forward to free agency and they accused Helwani of "promoting free agency" which is, apparently, anti-UFC. Other issues included him breaking news such as the UFC's poorly received intention of the McGregor/Diaz rematch. He also claims that the UFC/FOX deal, for him, was nothing but broken promises.

    Apparently Dana White, in a rage, blocked Luke Thomas, Chuck Mindenhall, and Jeff Wagenheim as well.

    Not unusual for a sporting enterprise to try and control the media, though.

    Fight Night 89 added a bunch of 'so what'/Canadian Content fights to it's card but with those 2 main fights who cares. The event will be held downtown at Landsdown park's TD centre (where the OHL's Ottawa 67's play hockey) rather than at the Ottawa Senator's Canadian Tire Centre. My best guess is the TD rink hold about half (or less) people than the Sens rink.... so I'm going out on a limb and guessing the UFC will jack up the prices to make up for the lower capacity... which means I gotta tune in hard to local sports radio to win some tickets.
