Lyoto has joined his brother Chinzo Machida in Bellator, seemingly out of nowhere.

Khabib vs. Conor in Russia in September still being rumoured. Could happen later in the year depending on circumstances but Russia is the place they could get 100k people to attend. Coach Kavanagh expects to have them fight at this point.

Rashad Evans told Ariel Helwani he is retiring from MMA.

Hopefully this is true. Shad had a great career. Similar to Bisping in many ways-- came up through TUF, loads of fights, won but couldn't hold the title, coached TUF, changed weight classes, hung on a little longer than he should've, made loads of money, loyal to the UFC, looks to be a hall of famer.

Bigg Rigg Hendricks has also announced his retirement. His path to the Hall of Fame was blocked by his controversial loss to GSP and several bad losses at the tail end. Shame.

I truly believe that loss to GSP stole his soul. He spent more time whining about that decision loss afterwards than training to fight apparently. Dude was just never the same guy.

It's amazing how much more fondly we tend to look at long time athletes in general, and especially fighters, at the end of their careers compared to when they was active. Guys like Bisping and Evans had their fare share of haters during their career a lot of that fairly well earned by the fighter themselves, but by the time of their retirement most fans look upon them with a high level of respect and even some love.

Josh Koshceck has also retired. These OG TUF guys are pretty much gone.

GSP exposing Hendricks (and the complicit UFC) as a steroid cheat didn't help.

I know people will say it is unproven but GSP is an honest guy and looking at Rigg's nosedive during the USADA years is petty suspect.

I think Barao might be the only guy who fell off worse. Maybe?

Vitor Belfort has never been the same since USADA took over as well. Outside of Souza it seems like Brazilian fighters as a whole fell off after USADA got involved with the UFC. Barao/Aldo/JDS/pretty much anyone who at some point was associated with Blackhouse MMA or Ed Soares. On a funny note, Gegard Mousasi said Machida chose to go to Bellator to get away from USADA.

Takanori Gomi is going to take his streak of 6 straight losses into battle against Melvin Guillard at Rizin FF 11. To his credit Guillard has not won a fight in his last 8 tries, and is riding a 4 fight losing streak. Should be some high level stuff in 2018.

Golden Boy announces they have signed Ortiz and Liddell for a third fight.

Liddell (48) hasn't fought in eight years and lost his last three fights by knockout. Ortiz (43) has remained active and is 3-1 in his last four bouts.

    Travis Fulton has retired.

The 41-year old finishes with an outrageous career record of 254-54-10-1 in MMA and 25-46-2 in boxing.

Fulton began his pro career in 1996 fighting a modest three times that year (2-1). He'd fight 23-times in 1997 and 41-times in 1998.

His career winning percentage of 79% is better than Randy Couture, BJ Penn, Tito Ortiz, and Chuck Liddell, and he fought more than all of them combined.

If not for Dan Severn you might call Fulton the king of the regionals.

Looked it up, dude fought Dan Severn four times and never won any of the four. First two fights ended with submission losses. Third fight ended with a decision loss. Fourth and final fight ended with a three round draw. That's called progress, so who knows what would have happened a fifth time!

Cooper's dad, Ray II, defeated Jake Shields by majority decision in 2002 but Shields beat him in the rematch with a RNC in 2004.

Some speculation that this fight is not going to happen and both guys are being paid to promote Golden Boy.

Tito, despite being a savvy negotiator, says he is being paid via a percentage of PPV buys and ticket sales. There is no date, no venue, and no card to speak of... hard to believe this will be worthwhile for him. Even if somehow they sell 50,000 PPV's at $25/each and get 10,000 butts in the seats at $25/each he'd still only be making $150k if he got 10% of the gross.
