    There's actually more guys fighting in the UFC & Strikeforce than playing in the NBA, and they're thinking of adding yet another weight class. It's no wonder the cards seem watered down.

    For the sake of comparison, UFC 150 is coming up. Let's look at UFC 50 from 2004.

    UFC 50 (The War of 04)

    Main Event: Hughes vs. GSP (5-star main event, Hughes looking to reclaim vacated title vs. fast-rising star)
    Co-Main: Tito Ortiz vs. Guy Mezger (replaced at the last minute by Patrick Cote) (grudge rubber match with serious bad blood between the two camps)
    Rich Franklin vs. Jorge Rivera (Franklin building a name for himself in the UFC)
    Frank Trigg vs. Renato Verissimo (Trigg coming off his infamous bout with Hughes)
    Evan Tanner vs. Robbie Lawler (excellent match-up)
    Ivan Salaverry vs. Tony Fryklund (cool clash of styles fight, Salaverry wins by epic body triangle submission)
    Patrick Cote vs. Marvin Eastman (would've been a slugfest, Lutter replaced Cote and won by KO in the first round, amazingly)


    UFC 150 (Henderson vs. Edgar 2)

    Main Event: Henderson vs. Edgar (title rematch nobody asked for except Edgar, fans wanted Diaz, Cerrone, or Pettis)
    Co-Main: Cerrone vs. Guillard (nice)
    Shields vs. Herman (zzzz)
    Okami vs. Roberts (Roberts fills-in as an injury replacement, not looking like a great tilt)
    Lawrence vs. Holloway (couple of rookies somehow make the big show)
    Nothing interesting in the prelims

    I think we're basically in a situation where there are so many guys under contract (reportedly over 400 and counting) that we are having inconsequential fights on main cards. I mean even the Shields vs. Herman bout has little to no consequences and it is the third biggest fight on the card. Seems like they are setting up Shields/Okami which doesn't sound thrilling, either.

    However with the way injuries are now it seems like they need to have a bloated roster to keep the machine wheels turning.

    So, the latest on the Penn-MacDonald fight: MacDonald was hoping to get it moved to UFC 152 in Montreal, but no bones to that says Penn, so now they are targeting the main event of UFC on FOX 5 in early December. Sounds like a long wait (cause it is).

    With the NSAC reluctant to grant Overeem a license early, the UFC is now targeting the NYE show for dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2--regardless of what JDS wants.

    Overeem doesn't deserve the f'ing title shot, I'm happy he isn't getting it right away. Cain had a dominant win and deserves the shot. Now wrestle JDS and don't try to box with him.

    I fucking hate Overeem.

    Middleweight champion Anderson Silva won't fight again this year. Chris Weidman is the top contender at this point in time but likely won't get a title shot right away and will have to fight another top contender. Seems like the UFC is waiting to see if Bisping covers himself in glory in Toronto vs. Stann.

    UFC on Fox 5 looking solid so far. Shogun vs. Gustafsson added to the card that already includes Penn/MacDonald.

    Penn/MacDonald is becoming a feud. Penn says MacDonald pulled out of the fight because he was scurred (doesn't really explain how he is still scheduled to fight him but w/e) and MacDonald say wants to take BJ's nickname because he deserves it more.

    That card is fucking explosive. Please, God, let all fighters stay healthy!! That is better than most PPV's!!! Those are the kinds of cards I was expecting on FOX!!

    BJ Penn is just trying to stay relevant.

    His boxing coach would like to see him at bantamweight. Doubt it.

    Edgar/Aldo should be an exciting matchup. I think Aldo has too much power for Edgar though. Hopefully Frankie can win his way to a title shot.

    Martin Kampmann vs Johnny Hendricks slated for November.

    DFW has come out and said that if GSP gets by Condit, Anderson Silva could be his next matchup. Is he for real or is this all talk?

    Does he even have control over it? We've heard this a million times. Anderson is 37 and this alleged fight could be well over a year away. And what happened to GSP wanting to fight Nick Diaz? What if Johnny Hendricks keeps crushing ass on 170 lbers?

    If it ever happens, it will be when we all care a lot less because one or both of them have started losing fights.

    The UFC offered presumptive top contender Chris Weidman a fight versus Vitor Belfort but he passed. He'd rather wait for his title shot next year.

    Wanderlei Silva will replace Vitor Belfort against Alan Belcher @ 153 (or is it 152 now?). Should be a good fight, but easy win for Belcher.

    LOL fuck this shit, scrap that Belcher/Silva match up. Alan Belcher is out of 153 (152?) with a spinal fracture. He's targeting a November return and would like to fight Chris Weidman. Has there ever been a run of injuries like this current stretch of months?
