Much like a player, as a broadcaster a lot of times you feed off the energy of the crowd. Now on the road it won't be like being around a Blazer crowd but it still makes a difference. On top of that, especially doing radio, you're trying to paint the picture of everything that is happening, not just what you can see on a monitor. There are times you see a coach going off on his team, or the body language of players, that he won't be able to see now unless the cameras are lucky enough to catch it. Add on that traveling with the team you learn things that you don't get at home. Guys start talking and opening up more, they have no where to run to like they do when they are at home and have family obligations. I'm sure Travis could list many other ways that being there in person is an advantage but those are just the ways I can think that it would hinder a broadcast.

I think you guys missed the bigger part of this news.

The reason the broadcast team will not be traveling for road games is that the team will be playing all 82 games at home from now on.

In the end, it was financially efficient to bribe Silver to adjust the schedule.

On a side note at least now the practices are opening up for beat reporters again. There will be more player interviews than we've had the last couple of seasons.

Have we confirmed whether this is just the on-air talent, or the whole production crew? I'd hope we'd still be sending our TV truck crew out....

What's the difference if they are in a truck outside the arena or in Portland in a studio?

Since I don't get the channel for road games (or home games for that matter), I don't know if I'll notice any difference other than the occasional interviews with coaching or players while on the road. :/

I still don’t get it. Their payroll for the team alone is over 100M, what’s some miscellaneous cost of travel for the broadcasting team in the grand scheme of things. Cheap ass MFers imo

Covid isn’t much of a thing anymore. And the monkeypox isn’t even classified as a pandemic let alone that significant to be wary

Yeah, broadcasting all 82 games from home vs all the travel, most likely a no brainer they prefer this arrangement

Depends on if their $$$ was affected. They certainly are no longer getting travel per diem.

    Was their salary cut too?

The 'color' broadcasters, in this case Hurd, is often looking for stuff outside of what the camera sees. Now, that takes away a large portion of his contribution. Just another way to make the Blazer fans' experience not quite as good. As long as the current ownership remains in place, I'm afraid we are stuck with this nonsense.

Going to hold judgment at this point.
I’d like to know if the HCP is going to be effected?
Also I wonder about some of the court side communication and related information being less available. When there are scuffles and incidents that are being looked at having someone there usually leads to at least an opinion about what happened?
Also you some times get a glimpse into what a ref did or didn’t do that we might not catch?

I’m sure it will have an impact. Just wondering how much?

It's not too late to sign him to a training camp contract.
