Dwight intimating that this may have been a Burt Kolde decision. Can Kolde just go away already? Has he done anything that has been beneficial to the franchise?

The shitty part is that we as fans have no recourse. If we boycott, they can justify moving the team.

I don't think that the NBA would accept that as an option, especially considering the train wreck they saved in Sacramento, and the other teams in significantly worse situations than the Blazers. BUT it does kinda feel like they're trying their best to alienate/disenfranchise fans with decisions like this.

It's just capitalism, in the classic "how much bark dust can we put in this pop-tart before people notice?" sense.

In the freelance TV industry, you have a 10 hour "day rate". Changes with they type of event you work vs the network it's airing on vs where the event is held.
For instance, you make work a UFC fight in Dallas and make $725/10 or a billiards tournament in Omaha and it's $650/10. Depends on your package and how much they want you there.

When you travel to say Pittsburgh for a MLB game.....the norm is you get a "half-day travel" rate when you travel there and back and your 10 day rate the days you work. Perdiem is also part of your pay, but that depends on the state you are in and the company hiring. The NBA's per diem is the highest anywhere.

Without going into too much detail, I have a yearly contract with the team. First game of the season to the last game of the first round.
At home, my 10 our rate is the same as other guys who do my job. BUT anytime we travel to another city, whether its SF or NYC, I get my "travel day rate" and per diem. While on the road on an off day, I also get that travel day because as a freelancer, me being with the team is keeping me from working for other people, like a place holder.

I will give my boss much credit on this, I would say there are only a handful of us in the NBA who do my job who get an off day rate....VERY rare.

Now because say we are in Cleveland for a game and play Atlanta the next night, we are at the arena in Cleveland at noon on game day, plane leaves for ATL at 11:30pm.....we get into our hotel room at 2:30am......now that's almost a 15 hour day. So my boss gives me an "inflated road rate".

I will now receive roughly 82 home rates.....
So @THE HCP will be losing out on 41 inflated road day rates/travel and off day rates and per diem that covers 5.5 months. Hope that helps.

Can the NBA force them to sell? Supposedly Silver really wants Phil Knight to get the team.

This just needs to happen already. Before they do more damage.

And the deal should include buying their way out of the Roots contract.

Prepping the organization for a sale is the only logical explanation I can come up with.

Not disagreeing, just don't see the logic in doing this kind of stuff TOO sell.

The new owner would have to be like "yeah. Let's go back on the road" and not be 2nd rate.

They are putting a new roof on Moda and upgrading the practice facility this fall....that expense might have triggered restructuring the road budget. On the positive side HCP will be eating lunch in Portland all season instead of spending that cash in OKC or Memphis!

Bert probably wants to keep the team and move it to Seattle.

Bert can want whatever he wants, but he's not stronger than what the NBA wants.

I don't see what the big deal is. It doesn't change anyone's ability to view the game. I'm guessing that most of the general population (aka - casual fans) will not be able to tell the difference.

I only watch the Blazer's feed ~1/3 of the time (figuring about 1/3 are national broadcasts).
I try and skip over as much of the dialog as I can. Fast forwarding through all the commentary in/out of commercials and during free throws.

For what it's worth I'm glad the Blazers are spending money upgrading in Oregon and not spending money in Texas or Florida or Arizona...I love it when players invest in Oregon too. The broadcast crew will be spending their money at home now all season and for that I'm grateful...shop local. Hire local.
