The back up PG role is a big need, but I think adding the consistent outside shooter holds more value. It's pretty obvious that Stott's system is the inside out game for the most part. Aldridge needs as many shooters as possible to kick it out to. If Batum, Matthews and Lillard have off nights; it's soooo hard for this team to have any sort of success. JJ Reddick is as about as consistent as you can get from the perimeter. He has a very quick release so the defense really can't cheat off of him. That will open the game for Batum, Aldridge and Lillard.

Then if we add a player like Dalembert; we have someone that can protect the paint, rebound (offensive) and give you some post scoring. And if we get Dalembert, then we should keep Hickson as the big man rotation.

Blue9 is spot on. Wes is your starting SG because there isnt really an option to pick up a better defender who also knocks down threes like Wes. His inability to create for himself limits his 6th man potential.
The Blazrrs arent lacking a quality starting SG what we are lacking is a SG to come off the bench who can create his own shot. The sixth man SG in the mold of Mayo/crawchuck/lou williams/kevin martin/jj reddick/kyle korver is what we need.

Evans off the bench would be a great addition. We tend to close games going small, we'd be able to go Lillard/Wes/Evans/Batum/Aldridge to close out most games.

I've been advocating JJ reddick pretty much all season. Regardless if he is the man off the bench or starting; him and Korver are the gusy we can obtain and not over-pay IMO. Martin, crawchuck and Mayo will all be over-paid this summer.

I Dont want martin/crawchuch/mayo they were just examples of the type of player it would be nice to have. Im a big fan of the skillset reddick brings to the table.

Redick is a career .400 3 point shooter. Matthews shoots .391. Is that small of a difference worth signing r?

Not buying it. Nic's handles - while improved - aren't good enough to constantly bring the ball up-court and initiate the offense. Reddick is more suited to a back-up role than Wes is, and someone like Evans, Martin, or Ellis would make a better back-up than Reddick. I don't think Wes is the be-all, end-all of SGs, but there isn't a better starting option out there. He's a starter, pure and simple.

Agreed. I also like Jarrett Jack and Tyreke Evans.

As for big men, I'm beginning to soften my stance on Dalembert.

I just don't think Jack is obtainable. The work he's been doing in Golden State has put his value to "overpay" to try and get him.

I'm not a big fan of Evans just because that team has had big issues with players distributing. I worry that Evans would screw up the distribution and flow.

if all you offer is the MLE, redick isn't signing here over other places that can offer the same.

I know, I know, but Jeryd Bayless would be a nice back up? Actually scratch that, he only dominates when he starts

    So would Telfair, actually

You think he's getting more than 5 mil? MaxMLE should be around that amount.

It's just mle, no need to say max.
I don't know if he will get more, possibly. Just saying if he only gets that, he would go to anyone else that can offer it also. He wouldn't come here for the same money he can get in, say, Chicago.

Well, Golden State is over the cap and they may want to trade and/or release some players. Besides, Jack is familiar with the City of Portland. IMO, it's worth a shot.

Yes maybe Chicago would be a great destination as well; but he will be competing with about 4 other unrestricted shooters like Korver, Mo Williams, Foye, Martin, Brewer, Daniels, Morrow, Barbosa, Johnson, Webster, Bell, Jones, and Mason Jr.

I am a big fan of Jack. You would hear no complaints from me if we somehow were able to land him.

That's why you put him in a 6th man role where he can hog the ball and not screw with the flow of our starting unit.
(I can't believe I'm defending - nay, promoting - the idea of bringing Evans in.)

I'm saying why would he choose Portland over a better team who wanted him?
