Vancouver Whitecaps FC are launching their first Major League Soccer (MLS) third kit this coming Thursday, June 14 – just in time for Father’s Day! Watch the unveiling live on Thursday, starting at 11 a.m. PT on whitecapsfc.com.

“We’re very excited to add a third uniform this season,” said John Furlong, Whitecaps FC executive chair. “This is a great milestone for the club. We’re very pleased with the new design and we hope that everyone else likes them as much as we do.”

    Third Jersey
    Inspired by BC's landscape

Amidst all these changes, one thing has remained constant. That’s where the club has come from, and where it is situated – the Pacific Northwest. With the new third kit, the ‘Caps have embraced their roots as the lone Canadian MLS club in the region.

As such, the kit’s primary colour is a unique arbutus brown, drawing from British Columbia’s various forests. This is meant to complement the team’s traditional colours reflected in the main crest — the blues of the ocean and sky; the white of white caps, cresting waves, snow, and glaciers; and the silver of the light that bounces between them.

By adding brown to the mix, Whitecaps FC feel they’ve accurately depicted the different aspects of their identity.

Whitecaps FC earn away draw at Chivas USA
    [IMG]
Blue and White earn ninth clean sheet

CARSON, CA — It may not have been as memorable as their first meeting with Chivas USA (5W-7L-5D) this season, but Vancouver Whitecaps FC (8W-4L-6D) picked up another valuable point in a scoreless draw with the Goats Saturday night at The Home Depot Center.

Earlier this season, The Home Depot Center provided the backdrop for Vancouver’s first road win in Major League Soccer and captain Jay DeMerit’s first goal as a member of the club.

History did not repeat itself on Saturday, but the ‘Caps have now claimed at least a point in seven of their last eight MLS matches as they continue to make their mark in the Western Conference standings.

Whitecaps sign Scotland captain Kenny Miller as third DP
    [IMG]

Vancouver Whitecaps, welcome to the club.

On Monday, the Canadian side announced Scotland national team captain Kenny Miller as their newest Designated Player, becoming the fourth MLS team this year to sign three DPs, the maximum allowed by the league.

Miller joins fellow Scot Barry Robson and Frenchman Eric Hassli as Whitecaps DPs and he will look to boost Vancouver's scoring fortunes this season. Despite featuring the likes of Hassli and rookie sensation Darren Mattocks, the club has only scored 21 goals in 20 matches, good for 15th-best in MLS.

“He has been a proven goalscorer with big clubs in Scotland and played in the England Premier League," Whitecaps manager Martin Rennie said in a club statement. "His speed, energy, and work rate will be a valuable asset to our club, as we look to have a strong second half of the season in MLS.”

New Whitecaps FC DP Miller finds familiar faces in Vancouver

    Scottish mafia

Scottish mafia in Vancouver has a new member, and new Designated Player Kenny Miller already feels like he’s among family.

Whitecaps FC unveiled the Scottish international on Monday at BC Place. He joins fellow Scots Barry Robson, head coach Martin Rennie, and assistant coach Paul Ritchie. And although assistant coach Carl Robinson is Welsh, he’s an old teammate of Miller’s from their time at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in the early 2000's.

“There’s a few friendly faces out here already,” Miller said. “I’ve played with both Carl Robinson and Paul Ritchie at some stage in my career. And obviously Barry Robson making the step a few months before me was always going to make it easier to settle.”

Vancouver's Richards to join English side Burnley in 2013
    [IMG]

Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Dane Richards will join English Championship outfit Burnley FC at the end of the 2012 season, the club announced Sunday morning.

    Richards scores with superb curler

Richards, a Jamaican international, was recently acquired by Vancouver from New York in a trade for Sebastien Le Toux and allocation money, but will now have a chance to test his luck across the ocean once his contract is up.

Knighton to get his chance between pipes for Vancouver
    [IMG]
Whitecaps FC goalkeeper set to make third straight start

It looks like Brad Knighton will be the man minding the goal for Vancouver Whitecaps FC this Sunday.

The Virginia native will keep his place between the pipes following solid outings during Vancouver's last two matches.

All three goals he’s conceded in those two defeats have been nigh unstoppable. In the first of those two matches, Knighton was beat by a rifled long-range shot from Juninho before David Beckham executed one of his signature free kicks late in the match to round out the 2-0 LA Galaxy win.

'Caps end losing streak, but cough up points in draw vs. Rapids

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A late equalizer from substitute Jamie Smith meant the Colorado Rapids played the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-2 draw in front of 18,992 at BC Place Sunday evening.

Second half goals from Alain Rochat and Kenny Miller looked as if they’d be enough to secure the ‘Caps a win until Smith’s 86th-minute effort, in which he latched onto a miscue from Rochat and Lee Young-Pyo before curling an effort past Brad Knighton.

    Recap:
'Caps snap winless run with 4-0 thrashing of Chivas

VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Vancouver Whitecaps ended a seven-game winless streak Wednesday night at BC Place, thrashing Chivas USA 4-0 through goals from Gershon Koffie, Dane Richards, Camilo and Barry Robson.

Koffie got things going only 11 minutes in, smashing a left-footed effort past Dan Kennedy from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner. Kenny Miller set the play up, holding the ball up before passing it back for the Ghanaian to make his late run from midfield.

'Caps book playoff spot but something is missing in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, B.C. – It was the biggest match of the season for the Vancouver Whitecaps, maybe the biggest in the franchise's MLS history up until this point, and they fell flat. The Caps fell to the Portland Timbers, 1-0, damanging their playoff chances.

A win would've secured the first postseason berth for a Canadian MLS club. Instead, they are forced to watch the out-of-town scores, which broke their way when FC Dallas fell to Seattle later in the night, clinching their 5th-place finish in the Western Conference and the #5 seed in the playoffs.

Playing at home in front of a sold out crowd of 21,000 at BC Place against the second-worst team in the Western Conference – a team that had yet to pick up a win on the road – the ‘Caps never really seemed to get going.

“We’ve got ourselves right up for this game tonight with a chance to go and win the game and confirm our playoff spot, and for some reason we never started at all tonight,” Kenny Miller told reporters following the game. “There wasn’t too many chances for us – even at 1-0 down you think you’d be throwing everything at them, but there just seemed to be something missing.”
