By the way--major props to you guys for keeping this site basically 100% up for over a year straight. I can't remember the last time I had problems logging on. It's a rock-solid reliable forum. Also extremely fast. You don't really appreciate it until you don't have it.
Re: Announcement: please read You go with Alice in Wonderland. I'll stick with my Cinderella analogy. We could double-date. I am one of those who see an ad in the 1st post on each page. My 1st complaint (I'm sure there will be more) is that the exact time is not recorded for each post. It just says "29 minutes ago" or "6 hours ago." The exact time allows us to understand a lot of things--when messages cross, when 2 posts occur simultaneously, when someone's response makes no sense until you look at times, jokes that make sense only if you know it was posted in the middle of the night or right before gametime, Gramps disqualifying predictions made after gametime, etc. Edit: Now I'm not seeing an ad (a picture ad inside the 1st post). Maybe it's only before logging in. (I'm still seeing a banner ad at the top of the page.)
Thanks, mook. We changed hosting providers about 6 weeks ago and had to reboot the servers to change the IP addresses. At the time we rebooted, the main S2 server had been up for 475 days or so. And I take pride in making the site run fast - it involves a lot of database tuning and www server tuning and analysis of how the browser cache (server-side) headers are set, and that sort of thing.
Re: Announcement: please read The date/time of posts is a configuration option. Seemed to me like "2 minutes ago" is a bit easier to figure out than having to look at the clock and do the math in your head. The "2 minutes ago" will show a date and time as the post is older, FWIW.
By configuration, do you mean I can configure it among my personal options, or that your configuration is set in stone for everyone?
It's for the whole site, I'm guessing so they don't have to do extra processing each time it shows a thread.
Re: Announcement: please read I prefer to know EXACTLY when a post was made, as well. Not sure if we get a vote, but it's the main thing that I would like changed I've seen so far. Ed O.
Re: Announcement: please read You just blew your cover as the FBI agent monitoring this forum. Civilians are cool with "6 minutes ago" or "a fair bit of time ago." I just feel bad for this "Ed O" who's identity you've stolen, as you'd never post pictures of the real you.
Re: Announcement: please read OK, ok changed the settings so it shows "Today 3:39PM" like it used to.
Re: Announcment: please read I would like to see seconds and milliseconds displayed as well. I am into synchronized precision posting. barfo
The link "TOP" on every post is now black instead of white, just is case you didn't notice. It was white earlier.
