Being someone who played basketball for several years in Memphis, where Mason, Jr. is from, I think that the only thing Anthony Mason, Jr. got from his dad was his genes. Mason, Jr. played down at Fairley and lived with his mom down in Whitehaven (aka "Blackhaven" or the "BHZ"... maybe the worst neighborhood in Memphis). His dad never showed up to his games, and his dad didn't have any ties to Memphis that I ever knew of. I hate to be a dick about something that I'm not 100% about, but I just got the impression that Anthony Mason didn't do much for his kid other than give him his genes and name. It's not exactly like Doc and Austin Rivers.
doesn't Kemp have an insane amount of kids? I remember the number being insanely high (at like 28) from the Yahoo article I read about his son 2 years ago.
Yeah I remember hearing that as well. He wasn't even in the life of the one named after him.. Unless there are multiple Shawn Kemp Juniors...
I grew up when the Reign Man was in his prime, and even then I remember making jokes about his number of kids, when I was a kid myself. The funny thing is that if you look at his Wiki page, it was reported that he only had 7 kids, but... that was in 1998. Having 21 since would not be surprising haha... (Given his genes though, watch there be ten Kemp's in the league by 2020.) EDIT: BTW - Has anyone else noticed an increase in NBA/NFL prospects named Shaquille? For example, in 2012 football recruiting alone: Shaq Thompson, a University of Washington recruit, is ranked #4 overall and #1 at safety. Shaq Roland is rated the #1 player in South Carolina (#66 overall) and is commited to USC. Shaq Lawson is rated the #3 player in South Carolina and is commited to Clemson. Shaq Powell is the #3 player n Nevada and the #6 all-purpose back, headed to Duke. (Not to mention you had 2011 recruits like Shaq Anthony (Clemson), Shaq Love (Kentucky), Shaq Rowell (West Virginia), and Shaq Mason (Georgia Tech)) Then you have 2012 basketball recruits: Shaq Goodwin is a McDonald's All-American big man headed to Memphis that has serious pro potential. Shaq Cleare is a four star recruit for Maryland that measures in at 6'9", 285 lbs. Shaq Johnson is a 6'5" Rivals 150 wing that's headed to Auburn. And then there's even Shaq Stokes, a 6'0" guard headed to Hofstra, as well as three other lower level DI recruits named Shaq. ... SERIOUSLY?!?!?!
It's funny: before the draft somebody got offended when I compared Leonard with Byron Mullens. Given their respective games last night, that was a massive compliment.
anyone who did not think leonard was a project was dreamin, I like the kid and the pick and his potential, but he's raw and it will take TIME
"He may not ever be Rose as a pure scorer, but he has better vision and instiincts as a passer. With the right work ethic and coach, he's fully capable of being an upper-echelon NBA point guard, and possibly an All-Star" Interesting comment by David Thorpe.
Larry Sanders sucks! No improvement in his game. I remember many here were clamoring for Sanders during that draft.
