Not sure which story is real on the LeBron Nike kicker. I know Nike has done this with several athletes, and that blurb didn't mention why he said he doesn't have one. I guess we will find out when LeBron becomes a free agent.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">20. Can a team circumvent the salary cap by paying a player less but arranging for an affiliated company to also pay him, perhaps by way of an endorsement contract?

I suppose it could happen, but the NBA will investigate if it suspects that an outside person or organization is paying a player on behalf or at the request of a team. If they find out that such an event has occurred, they will penalize the team. For the first offense by a team, the fine can be up to $2,500,000, forfeiture of a first round draft pick, and/or voiding the player's contract. The penalties increase for subsequent violations.

Incidentally, with the new CBA they did away with the ability for players to become player-coaches. This is because it would be possible to circumvent the cap by signing a player as a player-coach, and paying him less as a player but overpaying him as a coach. </div>

Not usre if this has been posted before. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#20

Wouldnt this make the rumored trade kickers in his contract illegal?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Accord:</div><div class="quote_post">On ATH today, Jay Mariotti brought up a point about a clause in LeBron's Nike contract which states that his $90 million contract could be worth well over $100+ million if he played for certain NBA teams, namely the Knicks and Lakers. This gives him even more of an incentive to not sign with the Cavs longterm and go somewhere else.

    Things aren't looking good...</div>

This is totally incorrect. There is not clause in LeBron's contract that makes him more money for playing in a big market city such as LA, Chicago or New York. It's just total rubbish. It's something that the New York Times published, just to stir up trouble and have them thinking they can actually lure LeBron out of Cleveland.

Again, THERE IS NOT CLAUSE IN LEBRON'S CONTRACT FOR PLAYING IN A BIG MARKET CITY.

    Usher would never allow it.
