My brother is a pretty outstanding COD player. Personally I don't play competitive online, just don't like it. Like to feel immersed in a game. Assassin's Creed is an odd mix of very fun and enjoyable gameplay together with schizophrenic and sometimes incomprehensible science fiction. Dunno if I will pick up 3 since there really hasn't been much change in gameplay from the first to fifth (?) games in the series--don't see the sixth being all that different. I've been getting into playing custom mods for Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas (both PC) lately. There are some creative people out there. Not so interested in Dawnguard since vampires and werewolves are so cliched right now. Will probably pick up FIFA 13 when it comes out at the end of the month. Still play 12 once or twice a week. Bought Diablo III and got utterly bored with it. Was about 90% done and never finished. Tried a couple of times to get into Witcher 2 but so far it's a no-go. Ditto with Deus Ex HR and Borderlands 1. Recently finished RAGE (fun but poor ending), Portal 2 (so fun), and The Old Republic (third play-through, done with that game but still need to unsubscribe). Edit: also finished Mass Effect 3 (great) and Arkham City (meh).
I tend to only play sports games, so have been spending my video game time lately playing Madden 2013.
What I find funny is that I used to mock my son fow playing EQ for hours on end. Some how my wife and I got into playing PS2 and PS 3 games. Then online FPS and MMORPGs. Went to WOW at beta, had RL friends and family of all ages playing together. Great social interaction with out of state in laws etc. I dont play much now, and will take months off at a time, come and play for a few weeks and get bored. May get the next expansion MOP. Oter games that I have found to be interesting, but have not purchased are DayZ, Guild Wars 2. Both games can be played for long terms, but are just as enjoyable to play for half of an hour. As far as pro gamers, the guys that I have met in game hat have done well just applied marketing to streaming. Kudos to them . Guys like Towelliee (yeah, that is the how it is spelled) guys 31, started about two years ago, gave up his "real" job six months ago. Makes 10 k or so a month, moved from NJ to San Diago CA, joined a gym and lives a nice life. To create a market and position like this was just unheard of a few years ago. Gotta give them props.
yeah, it is in beta right now, but should be released soon. To play beta you have to purchase arma and arma two, then you get a free beta key. I am going to wait for the stand alone version. In the beta there are too many scripters and hackers, and the game plays like shit. All in all it should be a blast. You can check it out on places like Twitch TV, lots of collage age guys are streaming and most are worth listening too. Three guiys I enjoy as back ground noise are Lirrik, DayZMarine and Towelliee.
I'm waiting for it to be released individually before i try it out, but it does look pretty good. Has anyone played Mount and Blade: Napoleonic Wars? It is surprisingly a lot of fun, even with the muskets taking forever to reload.
And then there's this
looks nice. I've all but given up on NBA games now. I think them, NFL and MLB, they're by far the least realistic in actually playing the game. At least has been my experience. NFL is pretty solid. MLB is tough to screw up. NBA games, I feel like the offense never runs well at all,a nd they always seem to break into just going one on one to score(in before someone says that's all the NBA does). The motion of teammates has always seemed really clunky, stiff. Just hate them. It could be my experience. Maybe others have great success running an offense through them, but it's always been damn near impossible, and I've never heard anybody out of friends, etc. disagree.
Not sure I could argue that NBA games are more realistic than other sports games, but NBA 2k has impressed the hell out of me over the years. I've found that if you go one on one in any of the recent versions you're going to get wailed on by the CPU if you have it on any kind of respectable difficulty level. I've been playing 2k12 on all-star mode for the most part and I have to run plays if I want to score in the half court with any efficiency.
Before COD4 I never played video games. No game held my interest for very long. Before this game, the last time I played video games was when I was a kid (N64 - Golden eye) -- For me, nothing comes close to the Call Of Duty franchise.
Has anyone seen any Blazer player ratings for 2k13 yet? Some of the ratings are particularly bad so far, including the Lakers, Melo at 92, as well as most of the other Knicks, and Nets like Joe Johnson at 85 and Gerald Wallace still in the 80s.
Has anyone seen the new Fifa ad for XBox? I'm pretty sure I heard (it was on in the background while I was working) that there is VOICE control. I can imagine playing now. Just screaming SHOOOOOT SHOOOOT SHOOOOT at the screen. Fifa has come a long ways from the 96/97 versions i had for SNES. If I had an Xbox I'd probably pick it up. Anyone play Fifa on Wii? I never play the Wii, but it might get some more use if I had Fifa (and if that version is any good).
I think that I read the voice commands on Kinect had more to do with Tactics, and substitutions, and things like that.
