Klitschko continuing to run and clinch to avoid anything significant landing by Arreola.

At least six rounds to two for Klitschko, IMHO.

We'll see if Arreola has the gusto to go for broke in the tenth-twelfth rounds, now.

If he doesn't change his strategy this fight is well over.

Klitschko still has great snap on his punches in the tenth round, but he isn't moving Arreola with them.

Arreola shook his head no after a long straight punch from Klitschko; a sure sign he is hurting him.

Klitschko doesn't look like he's been in a fight.

Chris Arreola's corner did throw in the towel. Two more rounds of punishment were not something they wanted to inflict on their fighter. Or perhaps they had a set time limit/insistence on stoppage of the fight for betting purposes? You never know with boxing. In any case Klitschko's KO/TKO record continues to reach amazing heights (now 92.5%, or 37/40).

Arreola had no answers for Klitschko

LOS ANGELES -- Here's the unfortunate truth about the heavyweight division after watching Vitali Klitschko turn in a ruthlessly efficient 10th-round destruction of Cristobal Arreola to retain his world title on Saturday night at the Staples Center: There is nobody to seriously challenge him.

Well, except one man. But that fight will never happen, because that man happens to be in his corner. It is his beloved younger brother, Wladimir Klitschko, who owns his own assortment of heavyweight titles and is widely considered the No. 1 heavyweight in the world. Vitali Klitschko is No. 2 -- at worst.

The brothers are best friends. They long ago promised their mother that they would never fight. And even without that promise, they don't want to. They love each other too much.

So what we are left with is a heavyweight division devoid of a true challenger to either brother. Few would give the other titleholder, Nikolai Valuev, much of a chance against him. Same goes for David Haye, the brash former cruiserweight champ who bailed on fights against both Klitschkos over the summer to instead take a November fight with Valuev.

What we are left with is a two-headed Klitschko heavyweight division until further notice.

Arreola sure wasn't the answer to ending their stranglehold.

Bidding to become the first heavyweight titleholder of Mexican decent, Arreola (27-1, 24 KOs) instead was just another overmatched challenger to be torn apart by a Klitschko. Born in East L.A. and living in Riverside, Arreola was the sentimental favorite in the crowd of 14,556, but sentiment can only take you so far.

Klitschko beat the hell out of him.

From the opening bell until Arreola's trainer, Henry Ramirez, mercifully signaled referee Jon Schorle to call off the fight after the 10th round, it was all Klitschko in a brutal performance.

Whatever Klitschko (38-2, 37 KOs) threw he seemed to land. He started with a strong left jab, which kept the shorter Arreola at bay. Every time Arreola, 28, did try to get inside he was met with a an avalanche of punches.

Right hands, hooks, uppercuts and body shots. Did we miss anything?

The heavily tattooed Arreola got tattooed, simply ill-equipped to deal with the variety of Klitschko's punches.

"I couldn't get to him," said Arreola, who managed to land just 86 of 331 blows (26 percent). "He was fighting the fight he was supposed to fight. He ran when he was supposed to. I couldn't get to him. I just couldn't get to him. Why did he beat me? He's just a smarter fighter. Whatever I did, he found a way to counteract it."

Arreola's face was swelling by the fifth round. His nose was bleeding by the ninth. And, finally, after the 10th round Ramirez had seen enough.

"He was taking too much punishment," Ramirez said. "When I told him I was going to stop the fight, he was irate. It was not an easy decision, but we had discussed it and I had t do it."

Arreola, whose only real hope was to make it a brawl, tagged Klitschko with a couple of decent right hands and tried to rough him up. But nothing really worked. All the while Klitschko was pounding away, landing 301 of 802 punches (38 percent).

"I'm so sorry. I really wanted to be champion and I worked my ass off," Arreola said, fighting back tears. "Vitali is a strong motherf---er. I never wanted to quit."

The outcome really shouldn't surprise anyone. While Klitschko has been dominant during his career against a series of top opponents, Arreola's résumé was awfully thin against quality foes.

Although Klitschko did his best to build up Arreola as a credible opponent, behind the scenes, his handlers were busy making arrangements for a December fight in Germany with American Kevin Johnson as the leading contender to land the fight.

The talks are serious enough that Johnson promoter Joe DeGuardia pulled Johnson out of a scheduled Oct. 10 fight against Cuban Olympic gold medalist Odlanier Solis.

Still, Klitschko paid tribute to Arreola's heart after the fight.

"I was surprised he did not come out," said Klitschko, who is from Ukraine but considers L.A. a second home. "This was a hard fight like I expected. I know I was hurting him a lot but he has a great, great chin. He's a tough fighter.

"He was so good and so tough. He will be heavyweight champion one day. Usually, after my hook, my opponents go to the floor. He has my respect."

In his three fights since ending a nearly four-year retirement because of now-healed injuries, Klitschko has been dominant. He returned in October 2008 to destroy Samuel Peter to regain his own belt. He smashed Juan Carlos Gomez in March. Then he laid waste to Arreola in his return to Staples Center, site of his epic loss to Lennox Lewis in 2003 and his title victory against Corrie Sanders in 2004.

But although Klitschko turned in yet another dominant victory and seems to be at his best, he said he doesn't want to hang around too long. Maybe it will be his own decision to end the Era of Klitschko World Domination and leave his brother to carry on.

"I'm 38," Klitschko said. "I'm not the youngest in the division. I don't want to break the record of George Foreman" as the oldest heavyweight champion at age 45.

Even if he did, there doesn't seem to be anyone around to stop him from trying.

^ Well supposedly he took a week and a half interlude during training to drink and party, or so the HBO broadcast team suggested.

Sure he lost weight but it seems he didn't lose stupid.

Yeah, Lampley or Merchant suggested he spent ten days in party mode during training. It's not unheard of for guys to take a week off in the middle of a long (7-9 week) camp but it usually isn't for that.
