But you cannot cut Swanigan, right? He is in the second year of a two year guaranteed rookie contract. So, you would have to trade him for nothing. I'm sad he hasn't improved much, because he has some great skills and attitude. It just looks like he will never be able to score around the basket.

For me even if he can score around the Basket it doesn't matter. In Todays nba he's unplayable. He's to short to defend big man and way to slow to Switch on guards, every Team would look to get a missmatch on Swanigan. It would end in a disaster. Thats why Players like Ryan Anderson or Enes kanter are unplayable in the Playoffs. But at least kanter is extremely good around the Basket and Anderson a big Time Spot-up shooter. Swanigan can't so anything except hustling and rebounding. He's not an nba player imo, i do not expect to ever make it to a nba player, you can't teach quickness or athleticism after 1 year he looks worse than his 1st year. But i wish him all the best for the future

Again his height is not the issue. His 9' standing reach is fine as a back up center as his his 7' 3" wing. His rebounding and passing is good. So maybe he just needs to shoot less......

I agree he is not quick enough to cover PF's on the perimeter. I said that from day one.

Yup. They have until July 18th to waive him or his contract becomes guaranteed. I'd be surprised if they let him go, given what he's been showing in summer league, but a lot of folks were surprised when Neil let Ed walk.

Yes, but the tax savings with waiving Wade are minimal. With Ed, that number would have accounted for nearly 3 fold his salary.

Here's what it looks like if we get rid of Wade/Layman/Papa G: http://www.shamsports.com/capulator?id=6948719605b478246b354d759752055

    If we keep Wade/Layman: http://www.shamsports.com/capulator?id=13867254965b478289c801c986149869

So about 5 mil. Unless there's a mandate to get under the tax, I doubt we let him go. And even then, we'd have to cut more $.

This is getting quite sad how you freak out in your posts about something that isn't going to happen.

The only reason I could see it happening would be if there was another trade and roster spots became an issue.

If there is a mandate to get under the tax you trade Leonard or someone to Brooklyn with a pick attached. He makes less in two years than Melo makes this year. Getting rid of cheap contracts is a stupid way to avoid the tax.

I would be surprised if they waived Baldwin. I’m going on vacation tomorrow if I come back and he’s gone And the exception isn’t used...

I didn't say it's smart, I'm saying it's one of the only reasons outside of opening up roster space to get rid of Wade/Layman. There's no need to.

And in your scenario, waiving/stretching Leonard and letting go of Layman and Baldwin gets us under. Think that's preferable to getting rid of a pick. (neither of these scenarios are actually preferable-- im perfectly fine paying tax for a year and PA/Neil should be too.)

Layman is a really good (summer league) player.

Honestly, if Baldwin finishes strong he may have enough trade value to be attached to get rid of a contract without giving up the pick. Which is yet another reason why it would be stupid to not just keep Baldwin.

At the very least trade him for a future 2nd rounder or something. I'm not saying I'd trade him but it makes no sense to waive someone with value.
