<div class="quote_poster">Quoting boogielew:</div><div class="quote_post">DW hasn't stepped on the court and he is already playing better defense than Fisher ever did. I thought Fisher was slow footed but when i saw tree go by fisher he was done. And what did he do? REach.... that is it. Oh and stand there with his hands on his hips watching his man get to the rim. I am pretty sure sagging off your man then walking slowly with your hand raised in the air is not what Monty had in mind for fisher .... not exactly closing on his man. Fisher did one thing, spot up and hit a wide open J. If contested it became a fall away nightmare. He was the worst defender on the floor at all times. In fact he was truly "the worst" W.O.R.S.T Waste Of Roster Space Totally</div> No really, tell us what you really think of Fisher.
Very low-risk/high-reward type of move for the Warriors. There's a reason why he was drafted so high in 2002. He also had a pretty impressive rookie campaign. Reminds me a lot of Monta Ellis though.
Nothing to lose from this signing. A minimum contract given out to a player who has a ton of talent. He hasn't been able to put together in the NBA, asides from when he came back from injury in his rookie season, dropping 20+ points a game looking like the next AI. However, he looks to be rehabilitated from his injuries and recent serious surgeries. If I was a Warrior fan though, I'd be somewhat concern of the PT Ellis gets and the progress or lack of he makes.

Baron, J-Rich, and Monta were our only guards since Pietrus will more than likely play almost exclusively at SF and even J-Rich will probably get alot of time at SF. McLeod doesnt seem like a Nellie type of player, plus Nellie said Dun would play alot of point and if Devin Brown plays at all then he'll probably be a SF. So we did need another guard coming off the bench and he's similar to Ellis yet pretty different. Ellis is a much better defender and he doesnt have the "shoot every time he touches the ball" mindset that Wagner has. As far as passing ability goes they're probably about even but Ellis looks to pass alot more. That's why if Pietrus doesnt work out starting at the 3 it wont take long before the starting lineup is Baron/Ellis/JR/Dunleavy/Murphy and Ellis can be the hustle/defensive/glue guy/role player since he showed he's very good at that last year. Wagner on the other will probably never start because he's always looking to score and never plays defense, much like Eddie House or Ronald Murray.

I don't know why anyone would be worried that a talented player that would fit in a running system is added to our team. Wagner is exactly the type of player we need on this team. Ellis will find minutes on this team because he does so many things well. I wouldn't worry about him at all.
Ellis could make DW 3rd string possibly depending on if Ellis plays more point guard or shooting guard. DW's career field goal % is pretty bad though. I'd figure blindfolded, one handed Baron Davis can shoot better. Plus, he's kinda like Murphy in the whole scoring and defense mentality. I guess the bright side is that he can shoot free throws and create his own shot. LOL. Oh wait I said that before. Doh! <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Wagner had his entire colon removed? Damn...</div> At least we won't have to worry about him dropping weight like Nellie wants everone to do... Wow.. did I just make fun of a guy for losing his colon?
I'm happy for DW and the fact that he's brought himself back to the brink from his colon removal. For that I give him more credit than he could ever get from winning an NBA championship and look forward to rooting for him. However, he brings out one of my pet peeves, "scoring PG." Yes Tim Hardaway was one, Baron at one time, AI at the start of his career. But they are rare and require a very special balance. A PG is the one who brings the ball up and creates for the others around him. He allows others to move off the ball and work for points and rebounds. If you have a scoring PG, he almost renders the others meaningless. He has now taken over two roles, leaving only rebounding. Well most people will not work at rebounding and defense if they are not involved offensively. Now if you are truly special and show you can score and keep others involved, your teammates will play hard supporting you. If not though, everything goes haywire and the teammates dog it. This is my fear with a DW type.

It's like he did not know when to pass the ball, when to shoot it, and his on-ball defense was really bad for a guy of his quickness. We're lucky the dood can shoot free throws. Ellis was compared to Wagner a few times, but the difference is Ellis actually demonstrates some potential with his on-ball defense and his above average shooting guard passing. Not sure if his handle and free throw shooting are as good as Wagner's.
I'd take Ellis over Wagner anyday. Theres no question who the more balanced player is, and who is more valuable as a team player. Wagner may have scored 100 in highschool, 28 pts more than Ellis' highschool high. But Ellis almost averaged 40 pts a game, twice as much as Wagner. Plus he has a colon... sorry... that was bad. But yeah, theres no way Wagner is going to run point. My guess is he'll have an Eddie House role. Black hole off the bench.
Even as shooting guard he'll need to do the stuff that undersized shooting guards do, which is to function as a secondary passer like a point guard does. Guys like Cuttino Mobley, Sam Cassell, Kirk Hinrich, Jason Terry, Antonio Daniels, Gilbert Arenas, Iverson, Dwade, do it all the time like how bigger 6'5+ guards like Ray Allen, Vinsanity, Stackhouse, T-mac, and Kobe do. If Wagner can demonstrate his ability to act as a prototype two guard, I think he should do fine. But, he also needs to fix his shooting. My word, he is like Baron Davis... We don't need a plethora of below 40% shooters who might turn the ball over, shoot it way too early or hold onto the rock too long, and make bad decisions... We already had Fisher, Pietrus messing things up in our backup backcourt along with a streaky Baron Davis...
