<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DolfanDale)</div><div class='quotemain'><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'> He wasn't going to get a contract if Favre said something or not. If Walker wants to blame anybody it's TT. Mike McKenzie didn't have anyone call him out. Didn't get a new deal. Was booed when he came back. Traded the next week. I bet if Walker waited tell this year he'd have a new contract. GB has only redid one contract with 2 or more years left on it.</div> Maybe Walker wouldn't have gotten a new contract if Farve hadn't stuck his nose in Walker's business, but Walker didn't have a prayer of getting a new contract after Favre opened his yap. I don't understand why you think Walker would have gotten a new contract if he had waited until this year to have his contract "redid." That's pure speculation. Instead, he played, got hurt and saw his marketability tumble. I don't expect the Packers to show Jevon any loyalty.</div> They've only redid one contract in the history of the franchise with 2 or more years on it. That's Favre who had some MVP's and a SB under his belt. Walker had one good year. Ted Thompson had fans going up to him and saying to hold strong and not redo it. He would never of gotten it. He went about it all wrong because of bad advice from a greedy agent. Maybe the media shouldn't ask these questions to Favre. He gave an honest opinion. Though I guess when it comes to the NFL lying and saying what you don't feel is the "right" thing to do. If Walker didn't make his threats last year and put in a productive year then I know he'd probably get a new deal. Even if he got hurt he had a better chance this year than last if you look at the teams history in dealing with these kind of situations. Making threats didn't help his cause either. I hope Walker enjoys retirement</div> It never ceases to amaze me how Favre's flaws are spun into positive attributes by Packer fans. The issue here isn't honesty. It isn't appropriate for Favre to stick his nose into the contract negotiations of teammates. Favre didn't have to lie to reporters. He could have just kept his mouth shut. Instead, he stabbed a teammate in the back, killed any slim chance he had to get a raise and turned the state of Wisconsin against Javon Walker. I don't blame Walker for not wanting to play with the Packers or Favre. You keep asserting that Javon Walker would probably have gotten a new deal this year if he didn't threaten to hold out last year. Do you have some inside information to share because injured players don't usually get very big raises in the NFL. I have a hard time believing the Packers would offer a very big contract to Walker since this knee injury is hurting his marketability. You hope Walker enjoys retirement. Are you saying that you hope his career is over? Isn't that a bit harsh? What has Javon Walker done to make himself so hated? He had a big year and threatened to hold out if the Packers didn't renegotiate his contract, but came back into camp anyway. I guess that makes him a creep even though we know that the Packers would have told him that they were going to renegotiate his contract or cut him, if he were making a big paycheck and coming off an injury. (Don't believe me? Ask Antonio Freeman.) What else has Javon Walker done? He let his displeasure with the team be known. Okay. What else? Has he broken any laws? You would think this guy has been dropping cheeseheads in a wood chipper the way people are talking about him. Here's a huge heaping of truth for football fans. Football players have short careers and not everybody is making huge money. There's very little guaranteed in a football contract, unless your a superstar. I'm not even sure how they can be called contracts since a team can call off the deal at practically any time that they want. That's not a contract where I come from. Football players need to fight for money when they're marketability is high because they could lose their leverage any time they step on the field. Players have to make this stand even though it may make them look selfish to football fans, because most football fans can't see the big picture. They cast stones at football players for being greedy, while never taking exception to ball clubs lack of loyalty to players when it comes to the bottom line of business. They lash out at players for not "honoring" their contracts, while turning their heads when ball clubs don't "honor" the contracts that they have signed. Before you condemn Javon Walker, please honestly and objectively try to see things from his point of view.
I don't think you rip the guy for being honest. Do I agree with what he said. No!! I never said I agreed with what he said. If it were me I'd say I don't want to comment on that at this time. But I don't think Favre should be ripped on for being honest. If he had another solid season yeah TT said he'd negotiate the contract. (No I completely made it up) rollseyes Though what would I know I only live 5-10 minutes away from Packer Headquarter. Packers are only in the news everyday. News also travels fast in Green Bay. Judging from the history of the team they don't give into THREATS That's the key word!! Ahman Green got hurt and Green Bay brought him back with a pretty solid one year deal. He went about it the wrong way. He went on National TV with it. He made threats. Why make threats? Could of been dealt with in a different manor. Marvin Harrison got a new contract. Never threatened once to take a day off of work. Since he's gotten to Green Bay all he's had was ONE good year. He whined a lot. Whined some more. Got hurt and is now whining again. You talk about Diva WR's. That's Walker. Though I only live in Green Bay and seen the guy in practice, games, camps, etc... I've only seen his attitude.. Antonio Freeman is still very close to the team today and has no hatred to the team. Was at Fan Fest!! Understands the game is a business and things tend to happen. Considered signing with the team last year during the season possibly. So if a player signs the big deal. For instance Green Bay gives in to Walkers demands last year and signs him to one of the biggest deals in team history (which was what he was said to have been asking) Walker then goes on and gets hurt like he did. Comes back and struggles and struggle because of the injury. He got his pay day. Good for him. The teams is left over paying a guy. So cut him that's the great power. His contract will continue to count against this thing called the cap. Because of cap room is why players don't get there way. If there was no cap room I'm sure plenty of owners probably would be willing to dish money left and right. Because of the cap if a team signs a player and he flops they'll be left with a huge cap hit. Another perfect example is Joe Johnson of Green Bay. Signed him to a big deal. Pretty similar to Reggie Whites actually. Started like 5 or less games for the Pack I believe. Green Bay just a year ago finished paying the contract off. Point being it hurts the players when they don't get their contracts but it very well comes back and bites the team in the ass.

I've had disagreements with coworkers but I don't say anything in front of our clients or other coworkers because it's not appropriate, even if it is honest and I'm right. Favre may have been honest, but he was dead wrong in saying it publically. [quote name='porky88']If he had another solid season yeah TT said he'd negotiate the contract. Who's to say that that what Thompson had in mind would have been anywhere close to what Walker wanted until they actually negotiated. On the other hand, Walker knew that he would have to risk his leverage time and time again by playing and what happened? He got hurt, so that pushes a new contract even farther back. How many Neiman-Marcus years do you think a player should give at Walmart prices before he gets a new contract? NFL careers don't last that long. [quote name='porky88']He went about it the wrong way. Favre sticks his nose in a contract dispute that doesn't even involve him and that's great, but Walker says that he's not happy with his contract and he's a diva. (Yeah, Walker is a real diva. That's why he decided against holding out and come back and played, but I guess that doesn't count for anything.) I thought you weren't about busting on a guy because he's being honest. Walker honestly wasn't happy with his contract and was honestly considering not playing until it was renegotiated. I just don't understand. Honestly. [quote name='porky88']So if a player signs the big deal. Every team keeps track of who's getting paid what based on what kind of performance. Offer him something fair. Then, if he rejects that, too bad. However, I don't remember hearing that Javon Walker was asking All-World money. I just knew that he thought he should get more than $500,000 for a 1,000 yards and a Pro Bowl appearance. However, when we last debated this issue, I brought up the fact that the Packers were thin at WR and would be really hurting if Donald Driver got hurt, you told me that you could go around worrying about injuries, so why are bringing up injuries now?
We obviously have different approaches in this. Does that mean I have to side with you? I think differently then you. No use in arguing about this. I like Favre for being an honest guy. I disagree with what he said but he was honest which is fine by me. He said one sentence and that was it. That's how I feel. Your not going to change my opinion on this situation. Again I think players should go about this a different way than you do. Again no use in arguing about it. You seem to feel that the risk of an injury is too high in training camp and preseason that holding out is the way to go about it. I don't. I think a good coach protects his players as best as he can. Things can happen yes but I think Sherman did a pretty solid job in letting his star players not get hurt in Camp and preseason. Sherman?s training camps weren?t known for being the toughest in the league I think Walker should of come to work and handle this thing in private not public. I disagree with Walker's way of handling the situation. He went on Rome is Burning and talked about his contract. Would Marvin Harrison do that? I highly doubt it. I never said that what Favre said was great. In fact I said that I would of done differently. I don?t think Favre should be ripped on for his answer to a question proposed by the media though. Your from Louisville right. Did you see Walker hot dog around at practices? Didn't know you made it up here for them as a Dolphin fan? He's a very cocky guy. He's no where near the Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens but he's in that 2nd tier group. Maybe that was just my impression of him. Maybe Not?? There's plenty of guys who don?t' like him. Frank Winters one of the LEADERS on the Super Bowl teams here in Green Bay said he'd tell Walker not to let the door hit his you no what on the way out. Maybe Frank knows something?? Maybe he doesn't?? Though if he didn't I don't know why he'd say something like that. Maybe it's the fear of what TO did with the Eagles?? Who knows. I don't, You don't only Javon Walker and the Green Bay Packers know. I'm glad Walker is honest but why doesn't he go to TT in private and say something about it first. If he did that then maybe I would feel sorry for him. I did when he got hurt but then he fires one agent for not letting him get is pay day and now he wants the other one to get it for him. Instead of going to the Green Bay Packers the guy goes to ESPN. Tells you something about him. He puts himself first in my opinion. The team second.. That?s not how I would of done it. He has one year left on his contract. Why not tough it out go out there and after the year he is free to do as he pleases. If Green Bay says we want you back Walker can decline any contract and go test free agency. If he rather retire than play for the Pack like he told ESPN then go ahead in my opinion. I think he should of went to the Green Bay Packers the team he plays for at this time and discussed his future with them. Not ESPN.. I think I made that part pretty clear?? What I said is I don't believe you SIGN a guy for fear of another guy getting hurt. You see the point??????? or would you prefer to either misunderstand or put words in my mouth?? I think you misunderstood what I meant before but I made it clear that I don't think Green Bay should give into Walker because of fear of Driver going down. That's what I said, that's what I meant, that's what I think is the best approach. I think you resign the guy for different reasons. Consistency for one.. Javon Walker was asking for a lot of money. There wasn't a number given out but the news said it was more than what Antonio Freeman got paid. In my opinion that's too much for him after one good year. In my opinion you especially don't resign the guy for that kind of money for the fear of a completely different guy going down!! I think I made it clear. Yeah I made it clear what I think. I'm sure you have a different approach with this. That's cool.. but mine doesn't have to be the same as yours.
