Fire Montgomery. Chris Mullin should hire himself to coach the team.

    Custodian,

I respect your opinions and agree with most of them. However, I think you can win with what the Warriors already have, its about execution.

Who wins without the shot blockers and post up play? The Suns do, the Sonics did last year, look the Spurs killed the Knicks with 13 from Duncan last night. The Bucks from the 1990s, the Mavs for the longest time in the 2000s, Why? Because they out execute the other team on the offensive end. They plain outscore the other team. Is that going to win a championship? No. But it will get you to the playoffs, perhaps even deep into the playoffs.

Last night was a prime example. The Sixers did not beat the Warriors in the paint with dump down offense and shot blocking. They won by executing on the offensive end and watching the Warriors play one on one basketball and shoot 40%.

I believe we should not worry about winning a championship until the Warriors can establish a playoff foothold.

The Warriors are not doing the little things right now. Where are the hustle points? Rebounds in traffic? Steals? The extra pass? The help defense? The transition defense? Those are the things that I saw early on and do not see now. The Warriors I saw play the Pistons tough played hard, played good D, and rebounded. I do not see that now.

Is that Montgomery's fault? I would say not. Don't forget here's a guy who stepped into a horrible situation, had a listless team, got Baron, moved them into respectability and has a team that is still 14-12. That's not a guy you fire.

Last question, why do fans constantly blame the coach and do not blame the players?

I heard Matt Steinmetz on the radio this morning and the question he had is, "Are the stars (JRich, Baron) making the others better?" That is what you have to do to reach elite status. I think that Baron is a little, but no one else is adding to those around them.

Him or Paul Silas. Silas would be great for the team. He has seen the playoffs before and has coached Baron in winning seasons. He is well liked by star players (Lebron, Baron) and has a good feel for the game. Right now we should fire Monty to start and have Mario Elie or Chris Mullin coach until we can get Silas signed and coaching.

Anyways I think Mike Montgomery should be fired.

Agreed, I've been on the Silas bandwagon for years, I really wanted him ever since he got fired from Cleveland. The one big problem with the Warriors' various coaches over the last decade or so is that there were very few disciplinarians and few established coaches. Alot of the coaches went on to become good and established but its very difficult to win with a young team as well as an inexperienced coach; there just isnt enough NBA know-how to lead a team. I really hope our next coach is experienced and savvy...

The coach is the one making team killing decisions. Right now we are on a three-game road losing streak going into a game with Detroit, the best team in the league. Right now Monty has been saying how we aren't getting any energy from the team. We have players like Foyle and Dunleavy starting when they are not producing. Hell, right now I'd like to see a Baron, Fisher, J-Rich, Murphy, Biedrins line-up until Pietrus is back. All of those players bring in energy and have been working their asses off in our losing streak. There are the things like Monty saying we have no energy anymore, Diogu, Biedrins, Fisher all provide energy. Right now Dunleavy and Foyle are playing below mediocre and Monty will not play players like Biedrins and Diogu who produce and have good energetic games in long minutes. Biedrins' only start has been against Sacramento last year and Sacto has a solid team of bigs and Biedrins got a double-double. Right now Beans is getting 2.7 points a game in about eleven minutes a contest. We all remember when he got 15-20 minutes or so he would put up 5-7 points and rack up rebounds. Right now Foyle is not rebounding, cannot score, is easily losing his defensive edge and we have our monster Biedrins off of the bench and is starting to stay out of foul trouble. Lets have him start against Detroit, lets not have a dead Foyle start!

Right now we have 5-6 players working their butts off on the court now, Fisher, Baron, Murphy, J-Rich, Biedrins, (if he plays) Diogu. A game is won by a team effort and I'm convinced that if we bench little spoiled, pampered Dunleavy he might show some emotion and make a spark off of the bench. I'm tired of seeing Dunleavy and Foyle be lifeless on the court right now. Monty says we need energy, but he has it right before his eyes with players like Fisher, Diogu and Biedrins. But he's scared to play Diogu and Beans more than 10-15 minutes. Biedrins is getting his minutes early in the 1st quarter when Foyle comes out and seldom plays the rest of the game. Diogu isn't getting playing time, but he can score off of the bench and plays the post, he makes free throws, but he isn't getting minutes! Right now those bench players are producing. Against a team like Detroit who we play tommorow, we are not going to win if we have 4 players trying in the whole game and our sparks on the bench. We need change and we need it now. Monty can't see what we need even when its before his own eyes. Fire him already, it's disgusting watching him run the same offense, subbing the wrong players, and complaning about lack of energy. He needs to begone.

Anyway I think Mike Montgomery should be fired.

I am amazed at how you percieve 3-4 rebounds from JRich or any of the other guards is going all out? Yes they get points but the game is far more than points provided.

    Dunleavy? Yes sit him down.

But its more than one or two persons, its the team collectively. My thinking is quit giving everyone else a cop out and blame Monty, Foyle and Dunleavy. Blame everyone. Top down. Everyone is the problem, not just a piece here or there. Teams win together and they lose together. The sooner the Warriors realize this the better.

I doubt Mullin ever took Montgomery seriously as a hire. For someone who surrounds himself around veteran NBA players like Mario Elie, Mitch Richmond, Rod Higgins, Tim Hardaway he goes out and hires Mike Montgomery. It's just a guess but I'd have to say this was of Cohan's choosing. Cohan always had a fascination with college coaches PJ, Rick Patino and he's not a basketball guy. It just doesn't make sense Mullin would pick Montgomery over his run TMC buddies. He's just not very smart but I am just thankful he hired Mullin to make basketball decisions.

Now my original point is that I really feel that Mario Elie is being trained to take over Montgomery's position. Rent a coach (monty) for 3 years then hand off the finished product to an NBA guy. If that is the case, I think Mullin will pull a trade to get a veteran center before firing Monty. Elie isn't ready and there are no other options. If this slide continues and we are clearly out of the playoff picture, I guarantee you he will be canned at the end of the year AT THE LATEST.

I infact agree with you that Montgomery is in over his head. He cannot think on his feet. Last year when he ran that 30 second offense, we all watched some god awful basketball. Montgomery is really lucky Mullin got Baron Davis. Just look at his substitution patterns/rotations and adjustments. Musselman hands down was better than this guy but he lost the team and was an errogant jerk. I more confidence in Baron Davis coaching this team than clueless Mike Montgomery.

Good post upsidedonwside7, Elie is probably the most plausible and affordable coach we could get ATM. If we were to fire Monty today, my guess is that he or Keith Smart would be the first ones in line to get the job. It would take a while to get a smart vet (Silas) to get over to the Warriors. Elie or Smart could both do a good job with the team. I think they would both understand this more because they played the game for a while and they would pick out the right players for subbing patterns unlike Monty. He is just so dumb about everything. He's making the team run a set offense that we run everytime down the court with maybe a few set plays instead of letting Baron just run whatever he feels.

Anyways I think Mike Montgomery should be fired.

Gotcha, Phil. I think we can win as well with this current roster, but we'll need to play more like the Suns and abandon the whole defense in favor of early offense (trademark of Musselman). I think our players are just too tired at the end and too lackluster in effort to score at the beginning.

Plus, the Warriors were just playing some stupid ball relying on Baron Davis all the time and trying to do their own thing without him. One thing I dislike about our main scorers is that they aren't setup guys who can deliver the ball to other people. Only Jrich has been the closest to being a setup guy with Dunleavy Jr. possibly being the best option if he can hit some shots and stop playing like a wuss sometimes. I still hold my belief that Dunleavy will shine a lot better when the ball can honestly be thrown inside for an easy score. Right now our perimeter guys have nowhere to go because Murphy prefers to be a trail outside shooter and one-on-one player and Foyle just sucks inside.

I'm pretty much for all offense at this point because our D isn't getting it done right now and our scoring has dropped off.

I wholeheartedly disagree it's the coach's fault. The players out there aren't executing like theycare. They play like they don't care. They aren't playing smart. If the players don't want to play that way or aren't picking up the offense or playing the defense, the team deserves to lose. If they aren't buying into the coach's system because they believe it doesn't work for them, maybe there needs to be a coaching change. I think in order to appreciate Montgomery you have to understanding what he's trying to do for a team that has no identity. Even the players they have now is a patchwork quilt ensemble.

And what's up with copying TributeToH20's tagline from the Knicks forum?
"Anyway, I think Isiah should be fired.".

First off if the coaching staff has it set up that Murphy is the trailing 3 how is that the player's fault? Heard a Keith Smart interview yesterday that indicated they are calling plays now to set up the post up for Davis, Murphy etc that lead to the one v one plays near the key, and are calling Murphy more now because they feel he has been more effective. The point is that not all the offensive problems are the players fault (yes quick shots and too many 3s and jumpshots), somethings are actually part of the offensive plan.

Not all offense may be player's fault, but there have been too many blame going on toward Monty.

First, this team is basically flawed team from the beginning. Our team is jump shooting team, but we have no post up game to create inside-outside game or reboundings to create second chance. Also, our front courts are not athlethic enough to provide decent inside defense. Dunleavy is struggling to say the least, but with Pietrus, who's SG to begin with, got injured, our best replacement for Dunleavy is Cheaney, who is also SG, because we have zero SF besides Dunleavy. So, we are 'forced' to play Dunleavy 30+ mins. Those are not something Monty can plan to make those better, and those are also our worst weaknesses.

Second, if we are struggling at what we are good at, and Monty can't make any adjustment, yes, we have a coaching problem. But, our back court, Davis, Richardson, Fisher and Pietrus, are one of the best, if not the best, back court in NBA. In other hand, our front court was supposely be the weak link, and without a doubt, they are main reasons why we are losing. Certainly, I wish Monty can do something to cover our weakness better, but at least, he is utilizing our strength to satisfactory.

That has been said, Monty certainly needs to find more impact players for current team. It would be a nightmare if any of Davis, Richardson, Fisher, Pietrus and Murphy gets injured or have an off night, and we already feel the huge gap Pietrus left. Dunleavy is basically refusing to become a impact player, despite averaging 30+ mins per game, and Monty is trying with Zarko a bit, but if so, give him a mins, instead of pulling out when he went 3-5 in 8 mins. And, also try Diogu bit more. He is inside presence and rebounding force, so try to utilize him bit more. I understand that we do not have a luxury to develop players, because our margin of error is so slim. But at this rate, not many good things will happen.

Monty did not do excellent job so far. However, he certainly didn't deserve to be fired in the middle of the season. He was given a faulty tool to begin with, and at least he is getting an result based on that faulty tool. If blames have to go, it should be the maker of faulty tool, who spent 27 mils per year in our front court...
