exactly my point...wilt was asked to change his style...he didn't do well...MJ changed his style many times...and he stepped up to the challenge...the Bulls need a scorer? MJ delivered...7+ foot guys came into the game? he developed a jump shot...faster guys like AI came into the game...he developed a fadeaway J...THE BULLS NEED HIM IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN HE WAS SICK, HE SCORED 38 POINTS for the win...the wizards needed a leader...he stepped up...the team is down by a point with a few seconds left...everyone knows he'll take the shot...and more often than not, he'll deliver...he feels that Kerr can make the game-winning shot...he asked him to be ready...and passed on to the open Kerr for the game winner... about the impact...Bird and Magic can never match the impact...MJ is known worldwide...the number 23 is worn in every tournament...every league...in every continent...there is also no doubt about his advertising power... also, compare what MJ did to the league...everyone...and i mean everyone respects him...have you seen the tribute to him? anyway...i respect your views...Wilt is a great player...i never got the chance to see him play though...
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">exactly my point...wilt was asked to change his style...he didn't do well</div> I'm sorry but you got your facts messed up on that one...Wilt changed his style all the time and still thrived when he did...he was asked to pass more and led the league in assists...he was asked to concentrate on defense only and he led the best defense force in the league (aside from Russell)...so I don't get where you think he didn't do well when he changed up his style of play... Also I do think Bird and Magic have had as much impact as Michael...they are the ones that brought the game back from the dead...the NBA was really nothing up to the point when the two joined the league and attracted the mass media and fans that MJ later thrived on...everyone in the league making the big money owes something to those two... Also, keep going on your point of what MJ did to the league...just stating there was a tribute to him isn't going to do much for your point...
"For one, it's common sense that Wilt was the better scorer. The reason why he doesn't have the highest career average ties into reason five. The coaches asked him to change him game up so much that his scoring dipped due to the style of play the coaches asked him to play." i am just expounding on this point...we are debating on why MJ have the higher scoring average...Wilt was asked to pass more...he scored less...MJ was asked to do defense...to develop a J...etc. etc...his scoring increased...and personally, i believe that the competition was much stiffer during MJ's time...(mobile big guys...lighting quick and slam dunking 6footers)... and the impact...there's no doubt that MJ is the most visual ambassador for the NBA...the endorsements...etc. etc...also, i dont think magic and bird did it alone...personally, i believe that it was the Lakers vs. Celtics that made an impact on the game...not Magic vs. Bird alone...but look at MJ...everyone's trying to be like him...every new and great rookie is trying to be touted as the new MJ...MJ, turned the Bulls and the NBA around...he revolutionized the game...remember the times that he won the game for the Bulls...every HS player is trying to be "like Mike"...he fills up every venue that he plays in...the world knows MJ...his name started the debate on "who's the next MJ?"...he's a kind of person that every city hates...(shall I say Cleveland, Utah and NY?)...but never to the point of the hate that Shaq and Kobe is receiving now...ya know what I mean? He was honored by the cities that he tormented...

Some nights he literally wouldn't shoot at all to make his coaches happy. The competition all-around may have been stiffer for MJ, but was it really any better at his own position than Wilt faced in his days? Wilt played in what was basically the golden era of centers where they did what centers were supposed to. Get down and dirty in the paint. That's all the centers then knew how to do. He also faced more hall of fame centers during his time than any of the other famous centers did (Shaq, Dream, Robinson). Also people talk about height difference...the height difference from the NBA then and now is around 2-3 inches. Most of that is due to the 6-8 and 6-9 small forwards we see now, so really how much of a difference was there? Also what lacked in height was certainly made up for in strength...big time. People say Jordan had the Jordan rules to stop him in Detroit...well Wilt basically had that treatment for every game of the season...I don't see how Jordan could have had it any worse than Wilt especially with rules being made to support offense more...also Jordan's competition at his spot wasn't greater than Wilt's...it can be argued that it was infact worse than what Wilt had for his comp... As for everyone knowing Jordan's name and what not...that has a lot to do with the technology and mass media boom when Jordan was reaching his prime...and Bird and Magic basically made the Lakers and Celtics rivalry...when they both got out of college and were drafted that's when people started talking about the Lakers and Celtics again....it's all a credit to them...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time...even those in contention agrees that MJ is the greatest player of all time...let me cite some reasons... 1. career scoring average 2. a defense to back up his offense 3. clutch plays (can you cite anyone better than him?) 4. leadership 5. the way he adjusted to the game...he used to be the one who dunks from the parking lot...when he realized that he's getting older and he lost some of his springs..he developed the turnaround shot...without any effort at all... 6. the mere fact that he played with an average group of guys and he still helped them finish with 72 wins...longley...harper...brown... 7. have you ever seen a 40+ player play that way??? 8. the impact he brought to the game... i can go on and on...but the fact will always remain that he's the greatest ever...</div> You just can't say THAT easily that he is better than Wilt, The Big O, or Kareem.
