Way to Represent in the ASG B-Roy

Don't get me wrong, Roy is a classy guy and he plays a classy game. He looked for the assist on almost every possession, and he defered to other players all night long. He's a diplomat and a genuinely good guy.

I just don't understand why he looked like he was going through the motions all night long. Why not show a little fire? Why not sprint up and down the court? Why not keep moving off the ball, and force people to pass it to you? Why not show some energy and enthusiasm?

Roy seemed comatose much of the game, and I just don't get it. But apparently I'm the exception.

 

What did you expect him to do? Run up and steal the ball from Chris Paul as Paul was headfaking repeatedly to the person who was not guarding him? Or maybe Paul's sort of "fire" is what you consider good basketball in a game where the goal is to get people to look at you. Seems odd you would criticize Roy for being exactly the type of player you seem to want on a team.

 

You're misrepresenting what I said. I didn't want Roy to get attention--I wanted him to play as if the game and the outcome mattered. What's wrong with staying active when you don't have the ball, and trying to get open for a shot? That's fundamental basketball. What's wrong with running hard down the court rather than lollygagging from one end to the other? What's wrong with actually fighting to get position for a rebound rather than just grabbing what happens to come your way?

 

Let it go! He is a true professional and a great guy. He represents the city and team the way it should be! Leave him alone!

 

Roy could have easily dropped 30 in this game, but he chose to set people up. My guess is, Roy decides he wants to win the MVP one year, and lights it up. Guys will be used to throwing him the rock because he gives it back, but one year, he won't.

 

I guess I just didn't see anypoint to your (lengthy) criticism of Roy in a game that is treated as a joke by all involved. The Shaq dance in the intro pretty much killed this as a competitive event, IMO, yet I laughed because it's an EXHIBITION.

Probably because the outcome didn't matter. Why hustle his ass off when everybody else is mailing it in. Nobody gives a shit about the outcome of that game and staying healthy for the duration of the season is much more important to Roy than trying to prove that he hustles in an All-Star game. He still ended up with a nice stat line and a couple of highlight reel dunks. What else could you ask for in a game that doesn't matter?

 

I think Shooter is saying that it would have been nice to see Roy exert a little fire in spurts. Sure the game doesn't matter, but as fans, we want to see a little bit of the Roy we know in an AS game. Not for 30 minutes, but how about for 3?

 

Agree. Remember the one sequence where Roy was right under the basket, could have easily taken a high percentage shot, but passed to Shaq instead? Remember, Roy is just in his 3rd year, 2nd all star game. He is deferring to guys who have been there 5, 10, 15 times before him. I think that is sort of protocol. His time will come.

I think he was just fine as may wine, myself. My cat Brandon is very proud of his namesake.

 

What's stupid is that people are in here shitting on Roy because he didn't seem "interested" or display "hustle".

The guy whopped ass when he NEEDED to, and then set people up for them to display their talents when it was the right time. Talk about a heady player and a smart player too for keeping himself fresh and not wearing himself out.

The main thing, everyone was going half-speed and just having fun trying to show off, Roy knew this, and he would most definitely look like a fool for trying to show-boat going 110% in a game where everyone was just being chill.

So I tell all of you B-Roy All* haters to chill out and let it be. He did what he did on purpose and that helps our Blazers down the long run, and himself.
