This is so true, and very well said. They (the athletes) have to be on guard now a days with anything they say. With the instant news now, they have to almost be on damage control before the damage is even there.
When guys say Joel is the MVP of training camp, I listened. When they talked about how selfish JJ played last season and how unselfish and huge Robin was, I listened. When they said they were changing up their entire defense to cater more toward keeping Lopez at the rim, I listened. When they talk about the interaction and how well they get along, I listened. When they said LA looks as strong and ready to play like it was mid-season before training camp even started, I listened. One can distinguish the sincerity between "both teams played hard" and "this team is gelling really well, coming in to training camp in shape and hungry." Listening is the difference between sounding like you know what you're talking about, and sounding like a clueless Homer. If my opinion sounds informed, it's because I was paying attention. I don't think that's asking to much from "experts" with far more access to the players than me.
I told a friend a few games into the season that this was a playoff team, and a 52-57 win team. He laughed and said no way that was going to happen. He was right, I really underestimated them. I also mentioned that this team reminds me more than any other of our one and only championship team. It is just the way they play as a *team*. No one is forcing it... it looks smooth and easy.
In general, players are guarded. But this season and these players are different. And you can tell they are with how candid they were on media day. It wasn't just the stereo-typical fodder. I was excited as I ever have been and loved me some media day for the first time in... ever.
I think this is amazing. Don't be surprised if we are hoisting up a banner Oct of 14. We did something last night versus Detroit that Indy couldn't do this evening. And they had the tired team. Think it suggests something.
You know the only thing that sucks about this season we're having........I'm going to have to work NEXT Christmas day again! It was nice having the last 3 off.
Ya, but not if you have 2 little ones. There was a stretch that we either played or traveled out on 4 straight christmases, it was tough.
man, 46 wins would suck. That'd mean they went 25-32 the rest of the year. Obviously a possibility, but good grief that would fucking suck.
