It's all speculation. Even if Lawrence Miller calls 95.5 today and says "Matthews was our #1 target all along." A quote we all hear with our own ears (Something you required earlier) it still doesn't make it so. I'm more willing to listen to someone who has nothing to gain backed by their previous record. If Ben was off this time than so be it. NEXT TIME I'd take that into consideration. The first 2 names we all heard/read/etc were Farmar and Mason. Farmar himself had quotes as did Mason. I read Matthews 15 minutes after free agency started. That was about the first bit of information coming out that evening on who the Blazers were contacting.
I agree with that - except that guys like Farmar and Ridnour are not exactly exciting options. I am holding out hope that this signing means Rudy/Bayless/Williams will be traded for a decent PG. Of course, I also think Mathews will be a more than adequate back-up at SG, so what do I know!
