I felt the same. Some people on here blow the radio away!!! Yeah, lead you to Cali to be a Lakers fan... but dammit, Sly beat me to that thought. Truth Speaks!
Nice article about Aminu's defense. I would be ecstatic if he was a Tony Allenesque defender. Sadly he's Tony Allenesque on offense.
True. But if Leonard, McCollum, lillard and vonleh can shoulder the scoring, I'm hoping aminu and Davis can be great defenders
Oh come on, he looks better than Allen on offense. Definitely has more skills with the ball in his hands. Just needs a consistent 3. If he can hit 1-2 threes a game at around 35 %, he has that starting spot and 30 mpg locked up easy.
In what way is he better? Allen shoots a higher %, has a higher PER, averages more ppg. Explain how he's better, or are you two just making shit up in your mind?
His playoffs last year were a revelation. When Parsons went down and he assumed the SF role, he put up a 20 PER, 12 ppg, 138 ORTG and great percentages from all over the floor. Yes, it was only 5 games. But I challenge you to find one singluar five game stretch in Tony Allen's career with that kind of offensive efficiency. Besides that, the eye test makes it pretty clear that Aminu has a better handle and ability to get to the rim than Allen. And his corner three is actually passable.
More specifically: it was 5 games against the same opponent, 4 of which his team lost. Presumably the Rockets decided letting him score was something they could live with. Same thing happened with Harrison Barnes against San Antonio a few years back: Barnes put up career-best (before or since) numbers in a series the Spurs won fairly easily because they had Tony Parker "guarding" Barnes.
Of course, Batum is very likely to produced on both ends of the court better than last season's Batum...
"The eye test" is becoming one of my favorite phrases here in S2 land. It's like "everything I am spewing out is made up and I have zero proof, but the eye test proves me right. For his career, Allen has been a better offensive player
All legit caveats. And we have Leonard and CJ on our own team who are in similar boats. But we'll see. I think Aminu will put up double figure points fairly easily this year.
I hope so. He's certainly a player you can root for. But I actually bothered to watch Afrobasket in the hopes of being blown away and he was disappointing to say the least. I worry he'll average double figure turnovers.
Hey, what are you doing back here; you're supposed to be dead! I made a snarky comment to someone because he was slamming you while you were on your death bed! WTH?
Come on MM. Stats can be skewed in a million ways to prove whatever points you want to as well. The eye test is lame if it's not a professional scout, but even not being a professional scout, sometimes things you see on the court just don't translate correctly to stats. It goes both ways.
Look at what the government does with stats. . . They aren't the be all and end all. Besides, when you've watched BBall for over 30 years - you know what you know and what looks right. That or your developing cataracts!
You know how I can tell when someone never played competitive basketball? When they say that a team just decided to "let someone score" in the playoffs...
