Maybe, but he's worth a heck of a good player who helps them in return.

This would be my starting offer:

Atlanta Gets: Ed Davis, Al-Farouq Aminu, 2019 POR 1st
Brooklyn Gets: Tiago Splitter, Tim Hardaway, 2018 CLE 1st
    Portland Gets: Paul Millsap

    Lillard /
    McCollum / Crabbe
    Turner / Harkless
    Millsap / Vonleh
    Plumlee / Leonard

If you don't want to play Vonleh you could play Harkless/Meyers more minutes at the 4.

We'd have assets in Meyers, Crabbe, Harkless, Plumlee, Vonleh, and our 2017 1st Round pick that could be packaged in any combination to trade for another star mid season should a good deal come along

I'd rather renounce Leonard than send Davis, and I'm sure Atlanta doesn't want all that salary back anyway. Aminu and both 2018 picks is probably the most reasonable offer from our end. With his long cheap declining contract and his playoff performance, Chief could be in demand.

I don't think there's a player out there thats better that will help them save money and is available.

Theyre obviously trying to win now (Dwight, Horford, Korver) and build for the future (Schroeder, Bazemore, Prince, Bazemore). Our trade helps them do both.

That's another possibility if they don't care about Davis.

I am sure this will never happen, but this is sexy as hell. I think Atlanta, if they have to trade Milsap to make room financially, will probably be looking to get a player or two on rookie pay scales. That way they are setting themselves up for the "now", but reloading the coffers for the future as well. Smart management.

You think they'd rather take Vonleh and Plumlee instead of Aminu?

The only competition I see in the trade market for Millsap is Boston. However, their demands have been very high/they haven't wanted to give up too much.

Actually yes. I don't think they need Aminu with the rest of the guys they have on their roster, even with his totally reasonable contact. I think it would take Plumlee, Vonleh, Cleveland pick and a future unprotected first from us.

Why are so many so eager to get rid of Aminu? That contract he's got is gold and he's still got a ceiling he hasn't hit yet.

We'd have to give up 2 first round picks with them at least, but it's possible.

which is exactly why he could bring back a player like Millsap in a situation like this.

If that would get him here, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Not eager to get rid of him per se; but certainly willing to upgrade him.

No more trading of Draft picks! Those picks are about the only way Portland can build our keep players and Olshey keeps giving them away in years for players we no longer have. I like Milsap but two young players in Davis and Aminu plus picks for a guy on the wrong side of 30 is not the way to build in my opinion. Very nice sort tween fix but it Durant make you a championship team this season and then by the next year Millsap is going on 33.

I am not super eager to get rid of him, but since he signed last year, he is on a Super cheap contract for what he can provide for a team. He would probably get Bazemore or Turner money in this current market. That is a tradable asset and if that helped actually finally move the needle, then you have to pull the trigger. If a deal can't be made I am more than happy to have Aminu back next season.

Isn't the whole point that Atlanta needs to clear cap space? How much do they need to clear to sign Howard/Horford/Baze?

That is the whole point. They can't take on too much. We might have a better chance if we renounce a couple players, give them a cheap player, a couple draft picks, and give them a player exception.

It looks like Horford is out in Atlanta. They'd free up enough space by losing Splitter and Sefalosha. That's the kind of cap space they're talking about freeing up.

It's more likely they want to pair Howard and Millsap. Howard makes a lot less than Horford would ($70.5M / 3 vs $150M+/5).

It makes more sense for us to just go after Horford in the first place. He's the better fit for us.

All say the odds of Atlanta signing Horford are slim.
