Steve Logan was another #2 the Warriors drafted, but didn't like enough to audition. Having followed this team a long time I always have some Idea who they ought to draft. Sometimes,as in several years where a center was essential the pick was obvious, there might be one C who fit on the 7th pick. Other years, there are options. I'd have drafted Gooden, not Dunleavy. Murphy I thought would go a lot higher, and I was very surprised Arenas was a #2..so quick. Korver is a guy who was on my list-I planned up a deal so we got a late #1 and picked him. His long range shot was silk. I'm a mere amatuer without the resources to be a real scout, but over the years,I picked better than the Warriors and getting the #2 picks right IS THEIR JOB. Setting the tone is there job too.
REREM, I think the W's avoided Gooden because he might have been another Antwan Jamison type tweener, that and they questioned his work ethic and attitude. But he was projected to be a special talent like Caron Butler so he could have been worth taking just to build up his value based on potential. I still wish the W's took a chance on a power forward or at least traded down to get somebody like Butler or Woods (thank goodness we dodged Woods, even though his upside was great for a Juco baller).
This draft coming up will have a ton of special talents in the second round, due to the influx of euro projects in the draft. According to nbadraft.net lawrence roberts is going in the second round. If that happens. we should grab him, because hes going to be a elton brand type player in the league.
