It sounds like a bit of buyer's remorse. I'm not sure who we could've got at #9 that was a better pick than POB.

I thought Brewer because he had a great combine and good workouts. He could've played SF. But maybe he didn't shoot as well as he could have or because he got schooled by Foye.

Now if Foye or Gay were there, then it probably would be different. But those guys were GONE. That's the thing about drafts. Once they're gone, they're gone.

But at #9, I think Mullin got the BAP who also happened to be someone we needed. Believe me, POB would've gone soon after if we didn't snap him up.

Also, I was talking about potential trades such as Ike and #9. Maybe that wasn't popular, but it was more realistic. Maybe just Ike could've got the #2 pick. I dunno, but it sounded like Mullin was trying to move up with Murphy. I think he wanted Aldridge, but he still kept Ike. That's a good sign. Anyway, that's my $.02.

Well Rudy Gay was gone, but at the same time we didn't know if there was anything we could have offered better than Memphis' Shane Battier to the Rockets.

Rockets probably wouldn't take any of our guys... They want to win now with a guy who has seen the playoffs and can D-it up and hit clutch shots. The Warriors have anybody like that at small forward? I think not. We could have offered Fisher, but not sure it's enough. At least with Battier, they could shift T-mac back over to shooting guard. Then they can just leave Rafer Alston where he is and use Luther Head as a younger, more athletic Derek Fisher type.

I like this pick POB has good feet he can move around the paint= being able to get putbacks, rebounds. He also has soft hands as compare to Foyle or Dampier. As mention before he is a legit 7feet, has a 7-5 3/4 wingspan= great shoot blocker, no more freebies in the paint. I like the fact that if anybody still thinks of Biendrins as a center the he will have some competition that might light a fire under him. Plus we have a mobile center that can run with the Warriors, I mean who isn't tired of seeing Foyle run on the fastbreak. Remember that we have to wait until july 1st in order to trade Murphy if they are going to trade him. I have no delusions of POB being an all star but I do see him as an improvement over Foyle an a solid center down the line.

I don't get the Biedrins bashing. When you draft a guy knowing he's a good two years from contributing, you don't give up on him after two years.

I hope Custodian and Run are correct here, and the Warriors are stockpiling bigs so they can make some trades.

Woah, woah let's set the record straight. There's no Biedrins bashing going on anywhere except for his attrocious Gordon Gund type free throw shooting and his ability to avoid foul trouble. Aside from that he's a great lock for a double double every night if given the minutes because he really cleans up and rewards point guards for finding him (unlike Foyle).

The issue I had with Biedrins, and maybe some other people feel the same way, is that Biedrins is not a true center and very well may never be. He's a big guy sort of like how Chris Mihm, Jermaine O'neil and Jeff Foster are. Really in-between a center and a power forward. I mean all are not that big, stocky Dale Davis or Elden Cambell type of big. I think POB has a good chance to because of his frame and body type. It's not a freak athlete type like Biedrins, but its big, mobile and intimidating type body. Biedrins always does good work against those 6'9 players like Michael Ruffin or Ben Wallace or somebody short and trying to play center. I think I got some clips of him where he just has excellent moves against these guys because he's not being outmuscled. Anway, I feel Biedrins is a tall PF, not a classic center. We could take another athlete at 7 feet tall like Pau Gasol, and it's obvious the guy is no center even if he tries to be by being more physical. It's the same way with the Indiana Pacers and how they get outrebounded against teams with a stronger force inside. They are basically playing the center and power forward positions with two power forwards. I think the Pistons are the only team to have gotten away playing like that, but it could be the fact they just have more hustle than most teams and they all play terrific defense individually.

Center right now is where Biedrins suffers at because he's just not naturally strong yet, especially on the West coast. So what happens if his body growth is similar to Kosta Perovic in that he never fills out? That's why I think it's good to pick another big guy because chances are the Warriors won't be getting one at #9, #10, #11 anytime soon if they happen to post Andrew Bogut or Ike Diogu type stats and we're improving our record in regular season...

P.S.: Damn right there better be trades, because we've no money to try and lure quality players to play along side major attractions such as Baron Davis and Jason Richardson. We've got a lot of young talent, the inability to develop them all or commit to all at once, so we better use them to find some good vet presences that can play both ends of the floor decently. We fix defense, shooting, and nba readiness, we could finally reach the playoffs in the way the Grizzlies have had when they were viewed as not so talented. But first, we need our Pau Gasol like star in the paint. Could that be Ike or Biedrins? Who knows. But we need something to support those moves. We can't just draft a bunch of rookies and build our team that way...

This pick is so boring. It's vanilla.

POB looks like a combination of Popeye Jones and Brian Cook, and that's not a good thing.

This is probably the worst case scenario I could have imagined. Not only did Mullin fail to trade the pick or move any of his lame-ass contracts, he also takes a player that just seems so unimpressive. What about Biedrins, and Taft, and ugh... Foyle?

I would have taken Marcus Williams.

At #9??? Unathletic and can't shoot, so we better hope he's a damn good magician with the ball...

Also, I wouldn't want that guy near my stuff.

Center depth is always good and especially if they can trade one of these guys.

Oh yeah I forgot about that laptop thing.

However: Unathletic? That kid can work wonders in the lane -- you don't have to be a track star or a pogo stick to be great in the league -- Marcus Williams is a great athlete for what he needs to do at the PG position -- he can break down the defense and create for people. He'll be good.

Plus Custodian you had Bargnani out of the top 10 so don't try to rip [IMG]

Popeye Jones and Brian Cook? I was going to say he looks like a combo between Dr. Dre and Lawrence Fishburne.

Well, he's half vanilla [IMG] . But seriously, we don't know how good or bad POB is going to be so at least give him half a chance. I've heard him described as Erick Dampier or Michael Olowokandi (and that's if he reaches his potential), so it is a concern. We don't want a guy with bad hands or is a stiff.

But the guy has the center size that we don't have with AB or Foyle. Taft has it, but he's been hurt and is trying to come back from injury. POB is taller than Taft now and weighs about the same. So he will be able to clog the paint and make guys think twice about taking it to the rack on him. Hopefully, he will be able to intimidate people with his size and aggressiveness. It's not the same as Foyle who tries and does block shots, but doesn't intimidate people.

POB's size should help guys like Ike and Dunleavy with the games, too. They should be able to get more boards as POB blocks guys out.

Second, POB will have to show that he can rebound and go after the ball. I don't expect a real mobile guy, but don't expect a stiff either. If he's aggressive and goes after the ball, and gets his share, like a Dampier then he'll be fine. BTW Damp is a good center on the defensive end even though a bit slow. What makes him more a liability is on the offensive end and his lack of passion or his lackadaisical tude on the court.

As for offense, someone else posted that POB has good hands, so he may be able to score some like AB. His highlights show that he likes to work very close inside. I'm not sure he'll be able to get that close all the time, but if he's aggressive and can get there, he'll be fine. Maybe he will be able to extend his game a little if he isn't a stiff.

Finally, I didn't think Mullin was going to be able to work a trade. Mainly because the guys he wants to trade have big contracts that other people don't want to assume -- Murphy, Foyle, Fisher and Dunleavy. This should be coming back in Mullin's face now. MP is tradeable, but there is some question about his play and his b-ball IQ.

Everyone whines that anyone other than Foyle is good, then we get a guy who plays solid D and has good hands and people whine and cry. The kid's major flaw is that he can be moved around on the block. In a couple of years that won't be an issue. Plus his hands are good. Let's see what trades come, Mullin basically said that there are trades coming on or after the 1st. He also talked up how hard Beidrins is working on his freethrows and how happy he is with the backcourt. That means that those 3 are probably safe. I can't wait to see what deal gets made.

Agreed. I was pretty impartial to this pick yesterday but its really grown on me overnight. How many opportunities do you get to get a athletic 7'0 legit C at 9 in the draft? POB is comparable to Bynum, a little older with some more experience and probably a bigger wingspan and standing reach. This kid has all the tools you'd want from a big man who isn't yet fully developed; good hands, decent footwork, raw postgame (but a good start), a few years of heavy playing time in the NCAA with results. There's no evidence that he's lazy or lacks intensity, in fact he wasn barely scouted coming out of high school but turned out to be a very good player in the NCAA.

Kids got a fcking skyhook that hes been working on since high school and can do a 360 dunk from just inside the FT line. Well, maybe the 360 dunk wont be that useful in an NBA game but still its pretty impressive. IMO at #9 in a crappy draft you could do ALOT worse than taking an athletic 20 yr. old legit 7'0 with a freakish wingspan and standing reach. To be honest, I really think it's a low % chance that he'll be a total faliure in the NBA, at worst he'll be a huge backup center.

Heres POB's gamelog. You can see that whenever he got touches he scored a ton but he also admits that he probably wont be much of a scorer in the NBA, at least not for a few years.

This is a page with a bunch of press conefernces after the draft. Check out POB's conference with the media and he gets asked about his sky hook that he says is pretty far along.

And last but not least the 360 dunk: [IMG]

Custodian why are you bashing luther head? Why would he ever aspire to be a pathetic defensive player who can't move his feet or D anyone in the league; who is mentally challenged in the game as if he were a high school freshman, case in point the foul at the end of the season, who has no more athletic skills than someone sitting in a chair shooting from three point land. The worst playere in franchise history. Why would any player want to aspire to be an athletic and younger version of that?

How long is Fisher going to continue to ride the laurels of Shaq and Kobe and his years in LA? oh and the 1.04 .... slow mo on tivo ....he didnt get that shot off.... I mean without 2 players commanding double teams giving him wide open looks that are uncontested he is uselss.

If Fisher is on the opening day roster. He better be there replacing Cheaney as designated 12th man and cheerleader and never see the floor save for 30 minutes combined for the season in garbage time. If Fisher plays big minutes this season, once again we will be facing deciding who we will draft at the 11 spot in the 2007 draft.

I like the pick. He's got great size, is a true 5, and is not a plodder. Yeah he's thin, so were Duncan, Bosh and O'Neal. I'm not saying he's going to be a superstar, but at least he's got some things to work with.

At #9 we should at least get a servicable starter and I think he'll be at least that. Its not like he's stumbling over his feet like Araujo or that kid from Bakersfield that Seattle picked last year.

I like Biedris but if we play them together one of the two has to have some scoring threat.

I'm sad to say, its time to say see you later to Dunleavy and Murphy.

As for Taft, remember, he's just a 2nd rd pick. He's got a body but that's about it. He does not look to be more than that. He's got no reliable shot and he moves kind of sloppily which leads to fouls.

Obviously Mullin loves these centers/big men with good size, good athleticism, and good hands. This draft, the Warriors appear to have aquired two more young 7 footers with great hands and tons of potential defensively/blocking shots. I have not followed the players or the stocks of the players on the draft, let alone know the players very well in this draft; so I can't acknowledge any credibility or the opposite in saying the Warriors passed on someone that will make the Warriors regret this pick.

However what I can say, after seeing his highlites, reading about his game along with the second round pick's game, is that the Warriors now have the deepest, young, high potentialed front court in the league. Andris is still 20 or 21, POB is 20, Taft is coming into his second year and is probably about 21 or 22(if I had to guess), Ike is in his second season, Perovic(who according to Chad Ford was a possible lottery prospect a couple of years ago). To add to this young core of post players is Troy Murphy who is entering his prime years, and Adonal Foyle who can be more easily moved without fear of losing too much size up font.

To tie this back to the head coach and all of the drafted big men by Mullin. Mike Montgomery was very strong in turning young big men into solid NBA centers. Maybe part of Mullin's game plan is to hope for the same while Montgomery is actually on this team in the NBA level.

    Center: Biedrins/Taft/POB/Perovic/Foyle
    Forward: Murphy/Ike/Zarko(is he a FA?)

I can see Foyle being moved, and even Troy Murphy now(hopefully they could squeeze in Dunleavy as well).

Who was bashing him? I said he'd be Houston's version of Luther Head, a combo guard that can punish doubles on Yao or T-mac and hit clutch shots. It was only said to imply that they wouldn't take Fisher from us and they probably wouldn't want Troy Murphy because all he'd do is just shoot, not pass, and get Yao in foul trouble as he detects the presence of guys running at the basket on defense. We didn't have what Houston was looking for, to get Rudy G in that draft. Not that I think he's that special or anything at this point. I do not know why this was taken out of context when I merely pointing that Alston + Luther Head means they don't need our Fisher.

I get it, you are upset at Fisher. Can we not beat a horse that's been dead for 8 months? Everyone knows how bad this guy is when the ball is in his hands other than to shoot it from a standstill position.

Good comments. The question is can we be patient enough? Because big men take a long time to develop and I can already detect warrior fans across the internet are getting really emotional and impatient again about everything. If all this venting can be directed at a particularly someone it just makes it easier for them than understanding its a combo of things put together that makes the Warriors this bad. Not any one person.

I agree. When was the last time we ever got a decent center prospect. Ummm never. He'll be a wait and see project, but hands, athleticism, size, at least a few important NCAA games he's shown where he's stepped up, are good signs this early in stage. Now, I just hope we can fix our shooting... If the most important guys on our team can't raise their level of performance at the foul line more than our big men, we're in serious trouble.
