There problem last year was the defense. They need a few D line men and I think the offense already looked quite a bit better.
There's some exaggeration here especially on side PNR, but yeah I agree that Terry could be a bit more flexible. Just wanted to clear up that drop coverage on it's own is in no way a dumb way to guard middle pnr and if you ask 75% of NBA coaches, they would actually say it's the smartest...especially considering our personnel.
I watch a ton of NBA basketball, not just the Blazers and I cant think of another team who shows as few looks defensively. I agree it can be a good scheme, but conley and delon wright were basically doing the same thing every time down the court and they never changed how they were guarding it. Im still frustrated that a few years ago in the playoffs when Steph had that crazy spurt in the 4th and OT they guarded him the same way every time, every time down the court, Ed Davis ended up on Steph freaking Curry and left out an island, the media thought that it was so amazing what Curry did, I thought it was amazing that after the 1st 4-5 times they didnt say to themselves hmm maybe we shouldnt switch our center onto their pg...
I asked him basically the same thing a couple days ago, he is really knowledgeable about basketball, makes for really fun conversations!
I think Terry basically goes into games or stretches of games with a “gameplan” and basically does that. He might draw up a good play here and there from a time out, but in my opinion one of his weaknesses as a coach is in game adjustments.
You don't have to agree with me. But anybody who watches the entire league would, pretty closely. There are only a few teams that hedge and recover beyond the level of the screen as their base pnr coverage, Denver being one of them.
Having met you in person, I can agree with that as you don't see like someone who gets easily offended. I was just pointing out an consistent theme with the OP as well as the consistent 'language barrier excuse' used for him. Sure he'll come and apologize later, but at some point with the same type of posts made by the OP. Apologies start to fall on deaf ears yaknow.
My feeling is that sure many teams run a similae scheme as the Blazers do, but I think they change things up and throw more wrinkles into their schemes. Guess its just an opinion and yes I am bias as a Blazer fan.
Ultimately what I find so strange about the Kanter signing iswhat it says about Stotts / NO must think of Collins. You know whats a really good thing to do with 21 year olds who are struggling with their footing in the NBA? Start playing mental games, let them play one of the best games of their life, and then never really see the court again. I thought Zach at times on offense was already becoming hesitant. Cant imagine this helps, especially since he apparently cant even get minutes over Meyers...
Yeah as one of Zach's biggest supporters it's frustrating, but he's taking it well and I have no doubts that they've communicated to him that he's still a large part of their future. And not sure Enes is guaranteed a spot in the rotation for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs. But we'll see.
I remember someone asking Stotts about adjustments in a regular season game a few seasons ago. He basically said something to the tune of "We have a scheme, and I don't want to confuse the guys by switching it up in the middle of a game."
Guess shouldnt be confused if they ignore how to run certain schemes. Many other teams are able to run multiple schemes without their guys getting confused. If he really said that... yikes.
