What exactly do we need in a new arena that couldn't be added to the Moda Center

The stupid thing is, the Memorial itself is hidden, and as far as I know, doesn't even work anymore.

And I'd bet most people have no idea there is one, or where it is.

The walls have been removed. They aren't there. They took them down in 2022.

I guess it's been longer ago that I've been there than I thought.

That makes that excuse for keeping it even weaker.

Yeah the memorial walls were taken down to be refurbished. They have very little plan on how to remake the memorial. I think the pools are still there but they quit running the fountain waters because homeless were bathing in them.

that's what happens when you have it hidden and not out in the open (among letting people do whatever the hell they want).

One thing that could move.... I don't think there's really any reason for the team to have their offices in the Rose Quarter. That's a big waste of space.

I remember us @ Minny and the ice under their floor was causing condensation all over the court. Delayed us like 30 minutes at least. And who can forget the water cannons going off in the AlamoDome on opening night in San Antonio!!!

Funny thing, or not so funny, I would say 99.9% of the fans who have ever been to the Rose Quarter have never even seen the actual memorial.

Well, there goes that genius idea. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Maybe we could reduce the lighting in the arena by 90% and put LEDs in the court to play glow in the dark basketball.

NGBA - National Glow Basketball Association

They can play glow in the dark pickleball at half time @barfo

And there is plenty of empty office space downtown for that...

    @julius

And now I just think - If the roof isn’t leaking the team shouldn’t be moving.

So we have a giant building taking over much of that area called the "Veteran Memorial Coliseum"

Only the once irrelevant hidden memorial is now gone. Its basically never used as a Coliseum. Has nothing to do with Veterans.

    That building makes zero sense.

I would say about 10? 12? years ago, Lanny and I went to a Blazer preseason game in the MC. I had seen many Blazer games, concerts, hell, even Evel Knievel do a jump inside it when I was a kid. But I had never... ever... seen anything there with the damn curtains open. Holy shit, that was amazing. Just gorgeous. Seeing the blue sky and city skyline above the last row of seats.

What a cool design element. I just don't get why it was hidden all those years with those giant curtains.

That's why I think if you can find someone to buy and renovate it into something like a casino, you could have something really unique and special.

I'll have to admit that up until this thread, I thought that the building itself was the memorial.

The fact that there is a memorial separable from the building makes it a lot easier to justify removal or repurposing of the building.

I vote we fill it full of water and sharks, call it the Memorial Aquarium.

A pirate ship would be a nice addition, of course.
