There has been empirical evident of DNA memory within living cells. And if you believe our organic self "chemical and electrical process" is all we have, then that energy and memory lives on.
There's a concept that arises out of quantum theory that humans (just like everything else) are simply patterns of information. Everything that you view as "you" is a part of that pattern of information. It's well known that we are constantly losing and gaining atoms and that over the course of a year, every atom that makes you up has been replaced. What keeps you "consistent" throughout all that assembling and disassembling is the information pattern that manifests itself to our senses via those atoms. When you die, the pattern of information isn't necessarily obliterated, but with all the changes that go on and the manifestation of your constituent parts being redistributed into the world and universe, the pattern breaks apart. But the "imprint" (so to speak) of that pattern (and all the changes it went through) isn't necessarily gone and isn't necessarily impossible to reconstruct, in theory. I'm simplifying this a lot and I don't necessarily fully understand it, not having a strong background in quantum physics. It's an interesting idea, though.
That's exactly what I am trying to explain. As Denny said "My consciousness dies with my empty shell" could be entirely wrong. And you don't need "God" to actually believe it.
? How do you know that's my belief? Maybe when my human life is over, I return to my home planet. barfo
From here on out I think threads like these should add "is that something you might be interested in" to the end of the title.
There are lots of atheists who are raised atheist who are wonderful people who do good. I don't need Heaven to love my neighbors. If someone announced today that there is no Heaven, I wouldn't go out and start murdering and robbing people.
Laws have nothing to do with punishment in the afterlife. They are based on punishment on Earth. You go to jail, not Hell, of you break a law. If its all about punishment in the afterlife, why have jail? Satan will get them in the end, right?
So why give a shit about hell and a shitty punishment? You endorse prison as punishment and you don't believe in afterlife. Yet here you are agreeing with prison. Such contradiction! Lol
I had a near death experience 30 years ago. I was in an accident and suffered a major concussion and assorted bumps and bruises. I remember just before the accident. Then I remember being revived in the ambulance. In between, nothing but utter blackness. If I didn't revive, I wouldn't have felt a thing. I didn't see a light or any of that crap. Just... Nothing. What this suggests is that your consciousness is not always there. A sufficient blow to the head, and you go blank. People who were at the accident scene told me I actually got up and walked around. I don't remember any of that, to this day. A sufficient blow to the head and you lose short term memory. In my case, about half an hour. There is no soul.
