well off the top of my head, Trophy Murphy, Hedo Turkoglu, Okur, Dirk, Charlie V and ZaZa. There are team with shooting bigs off the bench too. It might not be as many as traditional PF's out there, but there are a handful, There are also PFs that can't score. But my point is that besides the game against Bosh, Yi was doing ok with a lot of power forwards. Can Boone do a better job? perhaps, but it doesn't justify the offensive deficiency out there. One of the big knock on Yi on defense is that he has some weak fouls, but that's just one aspect of defense he can get better with. There is just no justification to start Boone over Yi.
I don't know how Yi does in the Nets practice but I can say I kept quite a close eye on him during the Olympics. I was there when he came out for pre-game warm up etc and he seems to have quite a good work ethic. He also showed a lot of different post and face up skills as well. Plus his movement around the court was quite impressive. Obviously what you do in practice doesn't necessarily translate into what you can do in game. However a lot of it has to do with confidence. Right now he doesn't have any confidence in his handle and that is holding him back from emerging as a really good player. The other interesting thing I noticed during the Olympics was Ricky Rubio's work ethic. The guy is extremely talented but he doesn't seem to like practicing too much.
Starting Boone at PF sounds like a good idea if he can hit a 12 to 15 foot jumper with regularity. He cannot. He is an undersized center, a nice backup for Lopez...just the same way Anderson will likely become a solid sixth man. Yi may not become Dirk, but he could become a reasonable fascimile. If you want a player who I think Anderson should model his game, my choice is Detlef Schrempf. I am extremely happy the Nets have all of them--Lopez, Boone, Yi and Anderson, all between the ages of 20 and 23, all on their rookie contracts.
In a rather old interview, Mo Williams said Yi can rain 3's in practice. Obviously, last year he didn't bring in the 3 to his game but we are seeing some of that now. I guess this means he worked quite hard on his long-range shooting since it must have been an adjustment shooting a few feet farther as compared to a CBA 3 pointer.
Consistency seems to be the problem here for yi. Great game with 27, then an average game, then a stinker. Foul problems again, dumb shots, seems like Frank is getting tired of his mistakes. I expect Frank to at least try Anderson for a few games to see if there is any difference...
That always seem to be the case with Yi. Last season at the Bucks he was holding Charlie Villanueva back from becoming next great power forward in the league. This season he is stopping Ryan Anderson from making the Nets forget about Lebron in 2010.
Most people didn't know this, but I watched a documentary on BBC. It was Yi... the reason the Beatles broke up the band. Just like how he broke up the Nets and sent RJ and Kidd away. Poor Charlie V, his career is ruined and playing back-up to a second round rookie this year.
Yi is a good player,I love him so much! I know he has some problem to improve, but we should believe him is the future of nets, because nets's player is younger.like lopze... All we know is nets is better than ever, because the news come to nets and let it become stronger. This is second season of Yi in NBA,he has no time to waste. I know he can be better if we give him some confidence to let him know I'm not one ,I have my fans , them give me so much help.I must play more effort for them and for me. let we give him some confidence. Give others some confidence and you will get more! Last, Let's hope him become more stronger in next... Be yourself ,To BE NO.1!
how many weeks, or months, or years do we wait for that to happen before the nets decide to make a change?
Boone is still hurt, even if he does start again, I doubt it's gonna be at PF for reasons people have already mentioned.
You know it doesn't have to be boone and i've already said that many times as well. What i'm asking now is how long do the nets try the Yi experiment before trying something else. It doesn't have to be boone! Did i mention it doesn't have to be boone. Let me clarify here ah boone doesn't have to be the starter here the nets have several other options since they have like 4 or 5 other pf options... How long does the invisible man get to start?
my fellow posters, it's only what 2 months into the season??? 17 games overall and already we are demanding for change???? i know it's easier said than done, but we as people tend to look at the negatives and cons more than the positives.... the guy is barely legal to drink in the United States and yet we want him to be playing at a level of a Tim Duncan with years of experience or a Dirk with years of experience etc... this is YI second year, completely different oriented offense compared to the bucks last year.... YI is getting his footwork down and is improving whether people tend to acknowledge it or not... yes he missed some shots, if we're going to use that to single him out, single out the whole roster, everyone misses shots its a not the worse thing in the world. he also makes his shots but there hasn't been a game where i can confidently say Frank tried to run the offense through him... hell, remember the Miami game? he was lights out until Frank (or VC) decided to ignore him in the final 3 minutes or so and allowed the heat to catch up and win... i stand by comments towards coach Frank in regards he does have YI playing too much from the 3pt line, i mean what good is having a 7 footer who can run and post if he is only suppose to stay behind the 3? as good as Boone improved, he will be very good off the bench backing up Lopez. can't put the both of them unless its 2 minutes left in the game and we need defensive stops.
What a Joke, VC has a bad game as the offensive focus and we blame the role players. You know what they say when you live by the sword...
Start who? Ryan Anderson? And biggest question, why? Anderson has as many invisible games as Yi does, 1-8, 1-6, 1-5, 1-4 shooting nights. Oh right, he's coming off the bench, he's supposed to not have rhythm on his shots. Jarvis Hayes is only shooting .421 FG%, and .280 3p%, and a lot of people here are in love with him. Has Nets bench been that bad over the years, that people hold such low standard for them? Of coarse there is a double standard for bench and starters since they are not suppose to be as good. but it doesn't mean we should just ignore the bad part. Now back to Ryan Anderson. He does look more aggressive offensively. The advantage Ryan Anderson has right now is that, although not as athletic as Yi, but he knows how to use it very well. He's making a few drives whenever he's on the floor, he's diving on the floor for loose balls. With second unit, Anderson probably has more freedom for him to do more on offense. But the fact is their Stats/min is almost identical. Anderson's slight higher shooting % is shrinking every game. Defensive wise, he's just as bad with less length to alter shots. He's not even getting all the PF minutes when Yi is not on the floor, which probably can tell you his likelihood of starting. Now lets talk about Yi's starting spot. The biggest reason people have about him is he's in consistency. but can you blame everything on him? I think Nets offensive system has a lot to do with it. With the starting Unit, Yi is more or less a spot up shooter to create open lanes for Harris and Carter to Drive. If he's defender leave him to help protect the paint more, he's gonna get more open looks for more production. If he's his defender decides to stay with him all the time, the only time Yi touches the ball is on top of the key outside three point line. He might be able to drive from there, but why would he when you have Harris and Carter for that. With the current system, I think he's production is largely determined by opposition defender on him. I don't see Yi getting more consistent until the Nets expend the play book to run a few plays for Yi. Brook is more consistent because he gets consistent feeds to the low post for him to operate, and he hasn't disappointed so far. I think yi can be a good pick'n'roll player, He's demonstrated the ability to knock down open jumpers or roll to the basket. But nets run too few of them. I've also seen Yi seal off a smaller defenders in the post but never get the ball, he's got a good spin move and a fade away jump shot he could use in those areas. Bottom line is, I don't see any reason Nets fan should be so erratic about Yi. How many 21 year olds can say that they scored 27 points in an NBA game? Harris' career high was 24 points before this year, now he exploded with the right system creating room for him to drive. Yi's got loads of potential, and he's shown flashes of them. If you don't see it, you probably should look harder. He's improved an many areas since last year, I think eventually Nets will run some more set plays for him to flourish, we just need to be patient and stop with the "player is as good as the last game he played" posts every single game.
i'm not sure what point he was trying to make but its pretty bad to blame any sort of disfunction or loss on the ex-bucks.... Frank needs to make the system work... all Nets Fans have been begging for a post scorer, we have two potential solid ones in YI and Brook yet the post up plays are nearly non existent for them...
You see it too, as well as most people. Nets were high on their one two punch in Harris and Carter. Wizards kept them in check with some good timed fouls and defense. D. Stevenson went off on the Net's non-D at the 3pt line, and he scored 21 points at 63% from threes. Nets continued to try to iso Carter and Harris and fails to score in the 3rd Q. Nets lose, we blame role players. rofl.
I thought the article, like the title of the article was about the poor production from the nets starting forwards. Well Frank stated in the article that he's letting Yi sink or swim. On a bright note anyway, Yi has had two really good games one against the heat, and one against the clippers. The heat are a small team upfront and the clippers really didn't play any defense. So, in keeping with Yi's inconsistency nets fans can expect one of his good games against the timberwolves. Its been about 4 or 5 games since the last one, so i'm looking forward to it..... Come on Yi, its time to show all your potential again...Us nets fans need our weekly fix... oh yeah, go nets!!!
