When did you become so cynical? I haven't been around as much the last few years but did life harden you? This trade was made because Schmidt's likes reclamation projects.

This is funny because I have been really clear that I wanted picks or prospects for Jerami and Malcolm who are win now players. So it wouldn't have been a risk of getting better it would have been a guarantee to either improve or at the very least maintain our lotto position while getting more pieces for our future in which I hope the team is winning... that's a few seasons from now.

I think sometimes we think trade player X or Y for picks and then we'll have more chances to strike gold!

I agree that neither Jerami nor Malcom really fit the team timeline (at least as the team exists right now). Still, I think having Scoot take a back seat and have to watch Brogdon play has improved his game. I think he has slowed down and being forced to sit and watch experienced players - even if they are not necessarily ideal for the team, provides learning opportunity for the youth.

That being said, in my ideal off-season I'd like to see Jerami, Malcom and Anfernee all traded.

All three have too much of a ISO/shoot first mentality for my liking. Ant has gotten somewhat better at assists but he is still largely a one-dimensional player. He scores. No defense, doesn't really get the whole team involved. Not a "team" guy, more of a "me" guy. That could be part-and-parcel to be "raised" by Dame & CJ, both known for ISO ball. In trying to be like them, Ant has become a pretty darn good shooter and a good offensive weapon but also like Dame & CJ, defense is anathema and there is too much me and not enough us.

This team is a year away from the playoffs, and those are key players who will be taking there. Why give away proven players for a couple of chances to roll the dice? That seems ill advised.

What do I know...Of the team of professionals building this team.

They're 15-35 and one year away from the playoffs? That's pretty optimstic.

But who cares about the playoffs if it results in us being first-round fodder? The goal should be to give this team the best chance at a championship before they have to start from scratch again, not make the playoffs or play-in next year.

Stepping stones. Very few teams go from 15-35 to 35-15 in one season. Make the playoffs, then figure out what the missing piece is to be a top four and go for it. We have picks down the road to go after that missing piece in a year or two.

It’s amazing that people don’t think we are so young we can’t grow into a playoff team and then make the moves at that time to put us over the top to a top four contender. We have the assets to add to the young core potential if they pop into a playin/playoff team. let them make it to first round fodder, then make the move to push them past that.
Seems very plausible to me. Not sure why more people don’t, and assume we can just be a lottery team and then spring into contender status all of a sudden.

Baseless when Shae is likely out for the season and Scoot has said coming off the bench has helped his game. How people make these things is hilarious to me.

The goal should be to become a contender (3-5 years down the line) and then play-in/1st round exits are stepping stones on that path. That means making sure you accumulate enough assets to acquire that missing piece instead of hoping you can make a play-in by keeping veterans and then as they depreciate in value/production or leave in free agency trying to figure out how to replace them AND trade for that missing piece with fewer assets. A byproduct of doing it the right way is better lottery odds, which only help until the team is ready to win.

My entire problem with the front office right now is it feels like they're aiming for the play-in next year and are being too short-sighted.

Why should that be the plan if we can make it happen sooner? Isn’t that kicking the can down the road you were so adamant against earlier?

We have enough assets to find that missing pc down the road. Grant, a few firsts and one of our young prospects we draft this year could net an all star caliber player.

I love you man, but the constant stance of I’m right and everyone else is wrong is hard to watch at times. Keeping an open mind that ones’ opinions might not always be right is commendable.

Everyone should stop complaining. Cronin likes where this team is going.

I really don't have a big problem with Joe saying that he likes where the team is going because no matter if it has a detailed path or not I'm sure he has a vision of where the team is headed in his opinion. My problem with that presser, I should say my biggest problem, is that Joe straight up said that he likes where we're at... like where we're at right now. SMH
