Korver couldn't get his shot off in the playoffs. Korver was great during the regular season. But if he isn't going to help you beat OKC, Indianapolis or Miami then how much does he actually help your franchise.

You misunderstand. Korver's OK, but he was in Butler's way. Over the next 3-5 years, is Korver going to be a better basketball player than Butler? It's arguable, but the Bulls needed to find out and they couldn't if Korver was getting his 20+mins at SG and SF.

I'm not convinced that Butler will be a more valuable basketball player in today's NBA than Kyle Korver. Maybe, but the skillset isn't there yet.

And the Bulls already had Deng, who plays Butler's position. If the goal is to win NBA championships short term, you need to build the best team around your core guys, once you determine who those are. For that squad, it was Rose/Deng/Boozer/Noah. If they resign Deng, the 3 is locked down for 4-5 more years.

Butler / Deng at the 2/3 isn't a long term solution, IMO. Especially if Rose and Deng are playing the 1 and 3.

Are our chances to win the championship better if we get rid of the guy Thibs prefers to play?

    I'm not getting it.

I think Korver was almost definitely let go because of money and not roster fit. When Thibs goes on and on about the importance of shooting, I can't imagine that he doesn't have Korver in mind when he says that.

I think if Rose didn't get injured he would have played out his contract. I think Korver's 10x more useful on a team with Rose than without him, but I don't doubt that the Bulls miss him.

The new buzzword in the NBA is 3D.

3 as in shoot 3pt shots
    D as in defender

Limited skill set required to play the 3D position.

Korver was the 3. Jimmy is the D. They're probably hoping Jimmy gets the 3 part down, too.
