I say, if I have to put money on this, I would put it on "Nothing else is going to happen". It would be the safe bet. Every year Olshey brings noname players, that never change nothing. Hezonia was our next Drazen, Bazemore was best 3nD in the league... After that we always wait for big splash and we got Tolliver and Blevins. I think that Stotts was Blazers main problem, to be exact, he let CJ and Dame do whatever they wanted, so I can wait and see, what Billups can do with them. I don't see any CJ trade, that can put us level up strait away. I believe, that Olshey thinks, CJ can replace Dames shooting in Portland and therefore Dame's trade makes much more sense.
we might not like it, but cj mccollum value is not close to ben simmons value and i wouldnt be surprised at all if daryl morey doesnt want cj mccollum its difficult that cj mccollum can land us siakam too, but tobias harris is a real possibility i would think in terms of value, theyre close in value compared to simmons & siakam
If Dame is playing with Embiid... Joel is not the alpha and he is not the first option... he might get option 1B status but more likely solidly option 2. That being said fuck that whole situation because I want Dame here.
There was at least some hope last week that we'd do SOMETHING. it seems clear now that we won't do anything. What a depressing offseason.
Looks like the answer to the original question is "nothing" and "never". And no, don't tell me to be patient. Going into the season with this unbalanced roster is looney. Waiting till the trade deadline - even if a move was forthcoming - means another wasted season.
I think it will be Tobias Harris, and the signing of Oubre & Milsap. All and all, I think that's pretty good as far as additions go. And Harris is better than many in here think.
What are you thinking - Milsap for the minimum and Oubre for the TMLE? From what I have read, Oubre wants a lot more than that, but it is possible he could get squeezed into a cheap deal. (either 1 year or more with a PO) I would be fine with Harris as long as they would take CJ straight up. If they ask for young players/draft picks as sweetener, IMHO that is too much.
That would actually make me apologize for some of my comments about Olshey - but I just don't see it happening.
I was with you until you added Politics. One of the things I love about this board is how rare that is. I liked a ton of what you've said, but I beg of you please don't turn this into a dumpster fire. Thanks.
I think Dame has to come back and put the Kybosh on Morey's Inhalant fueled dreams. When Dame comes back and is told the plan (Siakam or Simmons) he makes a statement and puts to bed the rumor and then the Toronto/Philadelphia options become available. Morey apparently doesn't want to deal directly with Toronto for some reason. I'm not giving Olshey unlimited time, I just think maybe the whole League is waiting for Dame to come back and speak.
There will be a big move. If we don't make one soon enough, we probably move Dame at the trade deadline.
1. Olshey cannot ignore Lillard's statements and what has been "leaked" on Lillard's behalf -- Lillard wants the chance to "compete" and doesn't believe the roster can do that. Lillard took crap for saying he only wanted to play in the bubble if the Blazers could at least compete for a playoff spot. He didn't back off that. He won't back off his current stance. He's not talking about guys improving like post-New Orleans debacle. It doesn't matter if Olshey thinks the roster isn't the problem. It's Lillard's team. 2. A big trade has to happen ... CJ. Maybe Nurkic, too. But it's a CJ problem. A tier below all star ... a number 3? on a team. A 2 depending on the 1. Ignore Lillard, and it will be too late ... maximum value goes away. Dame would be gone. Trading CJ is a forgone conclusion IMHO; Olshey has to get it done but is playing the game to get the best deal. 3. Tobias Harris? Not a problem child for Philly, so I expect him to stay. Simmons gets traded. Siakam chatter is pretty serious and goes back a little bit. Siakam has more of a chance to stay in Toronto. Their GM re-upped means he has the power and Siakam doesn't have leverage, but Getting Simmons would be a great get for Toronto. I understand the pessimism and the criticism of Olshey. But the current situation is THE tipping point. I hope the trade is done within a couple weeks.
