It's weird how stats can be interpreted so differently by two people... I guess that's why we have the term confirmation bias.

Ginobili appears to have been a full-time starter only in years 3, 4, and 9, out of 16 years total. I don't recall the circumstances of year 9, but being such an outlier, I would guess injury circumstances necessitated moving him into the starting lineup.

I mean, he was also a 25 year old rookie, and he started less than half the games at age 29. So, by year 5, he was basically slotted into the 6th man role. That's not so different from Simons' NBA age now, for whatever it's worth.

More unbiased analysis, less attitude, please. :)

IMO pretty much anyone (yes Dame too) should be available for a trade if another team is interested and will give us very good value, my guess is we keep Ant but he IMO is certainly not untouchable, no one is and should not be on this roster

At this point after being a HUGE Simmons fan, I now have a very serious concern this might be a Larry Sanders type situation. Sanders went from Doctor Blocktopus to out of the league almost overnight. I don't know if I'd trade Simons for Simmons at this point that's how low his value has sunk in my personal opinion after being willing to trade Simons plus 3 1st rounders for Simmons. And Dame for Simmons?!?!?! BWAHAHAHAHAHA HELL NO!

Sanders is one of a number of players who started as scrubs, worked their way up to respectability, then quickly returned to scrub-hood. They often tend to be centers - Whiteside and Roy Hibbert are classic examples. See also Andris Biedrins. Simmons has been talented and impactful from day 1. Yes, he's obviously high maintenance, but I'd be willing to bet he will have many productive years ahead of him.

It's funny how things have changed since I started this thread, but also how some things are exactly the same. Back then, I would say the majority of the board were very down on Simons' chances of developing. Well, he turned into a great scorer... BUT. That's about it. Poor defender, not a PG even though PG-sized. At his best playing lead guard when Dame is out - kind of like Jalen Brunson with the Mavs. So we need to find our Knicks who think he can be their star, only they need to trade for him, not sign him as a FA. But that brings me to
    THE ANFERNEE CONUNDRUM:
the set of teams that would want Ant, and the set of teams that have assets we would want has no overlap.

So we're stuck with him, and we're stuck going nowhere, because the team will never trade Dame.

    TEAMS THAT CAN USE ANT:
    Mavs
    ????

Or maybe a three team trade? Also I think Charlotte could use him.

Ant got paid big money based on stats he accumulated at a position he wasn't going to play, in games that meant absolutely nothing.
He might be better than what he is showing, but not as a SG. Once again, we have multiple players playing out of position. That is on the GM. Granted, Joe hasn't had a lot of time to fix what Neil did, but he is the one who paid Ant that much money based on a pretty small sample size in non-big games.

If the team that wants Anfernee doesn't have assets WE would want, I think it's pretty unlikely that they have assets that a team that has assets we would want would want. (That sentence really does make sense, honest. It's like "The boy the dog the cat scratched bit died.")

They currently have Terry Rozier in the "short gunner" role, and would have a hard time unloading him, I think (and don't even SUGGEST we swap Anfernee for Rozier)

No, but I did have a three team trade trade worked out once where we somehow got McDaniels, Bamba and Rozier. Yes Simons went out on that,
Rozier is only 28 and if we got the Rozier of last year he would be great as that scorer off the bench.

Here's one that KINDA makes sense, except the only way the Magic would be ready to cut bait on Suggs already is if he really is a bust and we wouldn't want him (unless they decide Markelle Fultz really is their answer at the 1). Also, while he's big and plays defense, and thus makes a better backcourt mate for Dame than Ant does, he can't shoot, which is kind of a big problem, for us, particularly.

Replace Carter with Franz Wagner (and filler) and I am intrigued.

Not sexy - but I like it! Smacks of Petrovic for Buck Williams. I wonder if Orlando would do it, though. They might prefer to include Gary Harris over Ross because he's got another year on his contract:

You do recall that those were two completely separate deals, right?

Yeah, I am guessing that will probably be the response for every trade suggestion that would actually make a difference long term.
I am not in favor of trading Ant just to make a trade.

Hard to make a difference when the other team laughs and hangs up the phone.
