I assume the people not including Henderson as the starter are assuming he's getting traded. He's the best 2 guard on the team. Crazyness I know we are youth movement right now, but Henderson might be the second best player on the roster. Easily the second most reliable.
CJ is a better scorer and shooter Henderson is a better defender and more athletic (much more). CJ isn't a starter in my mind, though. He's a short 2 guard and not exactly a good defender. The backup PG stuff is nonsense.
That's just it. I don't have a problem with him. I think he's going to be part of our rotation for sure, but I want to start developing guys that have a legit shot at being a part of this team long term.
If we want to win games: Dame/Hendo/Aminu/Leonard/Plumlee, with CJ/Crabbe/Davis/Kaman as the bench. If we want to play and develop the youth, Dame/Pat/Aminu/Leonard/Plumlee with Frazier/CJ/Montero/Vonleh/Davis as the bench.
Plumlee as the starting center? I respect his game. But why is it I have this feeling in the back of my mind like we are leaving Beavis and Butthead to close Burger World?
With Aminu in the starting lineup I think it's better to concentrate on offense from the SG spot. But most importantly, I'm looking at developing for the future. I don't know who is behind Aminu, and with Gerald's length, he might be the best option at bu SF. I used to like Henderson a lot, but he just never developed how I thought he would, but he's still certainly serviceable.
One thing this team is not doing is scoring a lot of points. Outside of dame, I hope everybody is ready for a lot of put backs.
After Dame the other players are pretty much even with their competition at their position If Stotts has a spine he'll make every player earn their minutes. Whoever competes the hardest and shows the most should get the minutes. Don't just play Leonard because he can shoot for example. Make him earn minutes over Davis and Plumlee (who imo are both better than Leonard right now) Go full Pete Carroll and make the players compete and earn their playing time. If someone isn't hustling or playing hard then put in the next guy.
Davis and plumlee don't really fit next to eachother. Lillard Crabbe Aminu Leonard Davis 2nd unit McCollum Henderson Harkless Vonleh Plumlee 3rd Frazier Montero Connaughton Kaman (I still think he gets traded before the season. Maybe Henderson too.)
Dig a pit. Toss in 2 guys with 1 bowie knife. If either of them survives to crawl out, they just might be a keeper.
Dame / Frazier / (CJ) Henderson / CJ / (Montero/Harkless) Aminu / Crabbe / (Montero/Harkless) Meyers / Davis / Vonleh Plumlee / Davis / (Kaman/Vonleh) The roster has a lot of flexibility but I would be VERY surprised if those starters are not the Day 1 guys barring injury. The third stringers will fight for minutes obviously but will definitely get more run this year than in years past under Stotts for obvious reasons. I don't understand why people think Hendo isn't going to start/play big minutes. Sure we want to develop the young guys but this isn't 2k and we're not ranking like PHI. He's a great character guy and will set the tone with Dame. I have no doubt he'll average north of 15ppg this year. Dame/Hendo/CJ will all be playing 30+ this year and will likely generate a large portion of our offense. We're not going to win a lot this year but I think it will definitely be a fun team to watch.
I also thing a Bogans has a good chance of being signed to be our Earl Watson as Kaman will likely be traded and Neil likes to have that one solid vet on the roster. Depending on how the rest of SL goes I can also see Daniel Orton getting an invite to camp and possibly being signed as a 15th man and last big. Stats don't show it but he does some of the smaller things.
Agreed but with a lack of second round picks and the structure of his contract I think they'll bring him into season and see how he develops. If they need the spot or don't see good signs he is easily waived with minimal financial impact.
