Yah, he's know for the anthem thing, ALMOST breaking Calvin Murphy's free throw record & of course for being a big stud at LSU & a lights out shooter in the NBA. Kenny Smith is still friends with him & brings him up every now & then on TNT. I remember seeing a special on him back in the mid 90's. His Tourettes would not let him leave the bball court w/o making a pefect shot. The perfect snap of the net had to feel & be perfect. He would end up being out all night long shooting & crying because he wanted to go home so badly! LMAO, that's some crazy ***** huh? Hahhaha. I can't even imagine that. Been wondering about Rodney Rogers myself. An underrated player who was unlucky in his team attachments during the formative years in the league: Nuggets and Clips. Despite that, he emerged as a bench stud in Phoenix with a 3-pt. weapon and became the "6th man of the year." A good mini-run for Boston followed all the way to the Eastern Finals, then a nice contract with the Nets saw Rodney walk away from a nice pay check for a player's option his last year and hook up with the Hornets for less money. They traded him to Philly where he was probably their most reliable bench player and sometimes starter in 2005. No one picked him up in 2006. I cannot find any reliable information and remain surprised that with all the bums in the League he wasn't signed by a club by Jan. of '06. Would love to hear if someone knows (really knows) why Rogers never got picked up last year, or maybe he was mentally retired from the game.

I thought this thread was gonna go into players who lived interesting or not-so-interesting lives after the nba, not just particular stars who just faded away. I was always interested in what players do after the nba, especially some of the lesser known players who can't live the rest of their lives off the money they earned in the league (due to injuries or maybe they just foolishly spent most of their money). Like what kind of jobs do these guys get? Are some players working as security guards like Gary Coleman? I heard Ed O'Bannon owns a used car shop.... but that's probably the only former nba'er with a regular job that I've heard of. Or maybe there are more Bison Dele's or Keon Clark's, both of whom have interesting stories to tell after their nba careers.

Keon Clark's upside never blossomed and he was cut last year. For every success story about jumps to the NBA from school ball there are 5 or 6 not so happy endings. Jayson Williams was out of basketball before he was grossly negligent with a loaded firearm committing a terrible homicide albeit unintentional, but the level of negligence is just below intent on the scale of human misconduct. Williams destroyed his knee at the height of his career, but fortunately after he had signed a max contract. John Lucas used to say when the cheering stopped he couldn't, and cocaine kept the postgame high going. Jayson Williams clearly needed people around him and apparently firearms, but he was starting to scare people.

He's a good man off court and could be a steady locker-room presence. His weight and rumors of lack of conditioning were oft-exaggerated by the press for sensational effect.
