I lose track of which thread in which certain discussions take place there seemed to be something of a left/right consensus around here that a foundational problem is the power and non-accountability of police unions. And the rest is just obstinate belligerence that so many police unions display. The city is not blameless in this, nor is the mayor, but the police, and their unions, have to be subordinate to democratically elected leadership. Yet as we see, over and over, the unions don't believe they should be this is not going to take the steam out of the defund police movement; just the opposite
The troops appear to be Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol, whose so called unions endorsed Trump and who are notoriously racist. Trump included Oakland as a city on his list for military occupation. Absolutely nothing untoward is going on in Oakland. Dress rehearsal for November when we can expect these same troops to be sent to provide "security" at majority Black and LatinX precincts in swing states.
Oakland's crime? It has a lot of Blacks. San Francisco's crime? It treats gays and lesbians as human beings. Portland's crime? It voted for Hillary.
It's as if he stirred up a hornets' nest. I wonder if he'll learn? Better yet, is he capable of learning?
Just found out a friend of mine from way back got shot in the head last night with some type of projectile from these military police. He has been very involved in the BLM. Guess he is in the hospital in BAD shape. He is super Blazer fan. Owns a clothing line called Blazer Gang.......Sending prayers to him and his wife and kids.
It will but Chicago has been bad for years and nothing changes. I dint think the answer is fed troops but probably and combo of State & City police force and help from Illini Guard. Something has to be done to protect the innocent.
