Because like it or don’t, I am “white”. That’s like asking why Black Lives Matter advertise themselves as “black”. Silly comment. You’re the one who called us “you people”. Considering you addressed that thread to what you know for a fact is a generally “white” populated message board, it’s safe to assume “you people” is code for “white people”. I don’t particularly like being called “white” (or any other ethnic identifier). I just consider myself a “person”. Do YOU see me as that and nothing more?? I’ll stop calling myself white when you stop calling yourself black. But YOU don’t wanna have THAT discussion. As I said before, quit pushing us away because you are angry. I’m angry too......but I’m going to direct that anger at the people who deserve it.
I wish we could sit down and talk about this in person. You don't have to call yourself white and I don't have to call myself black. Those words were created to create division between you and I. Irish people and Italians were not called white when they 1st arrived here. And the Jews certainly weren't considered white. Why are they now??? Because when the racists who founded this country decided that they wanted to divide and conquer, they chose the terms white and black to describe us. They even made the meanings of those words in the dictionary to reflect white meaning honest & pure and black meaning evil... Making it so that we could be even further segregated from justice and any sort of light entering our minds. Black people weren't permitted to learn how to read for 250 fucking years... Black people embrace the word black because slavery and oppression have created a situation where we cannot trace back our COUNTRY of origin. Racist folks need to realize that because telling us to go back to a continent doesn't tell us to which country to go back to. And frankly maybe y'all shall go back to Europe. Here's the beauty of white privilege that I don't have: You have the ability to trace your family history back to your country of origin. Where are your people from? Are they from Ireland? Are they from Italy, Greece, Scotland, ect?? Your heritage is not white. Your heritage is your country of origin. Break these chains of segregation and white supremacy.
My ethnicity is a mix of so many countries that no single country has any real importance to me. So that makes me (and you) Americans, because this is where we are from, this is our country of origin (though doesn’t the current state of DNA testing narrow down where any and all of us....including black people....are “from”? Mine did, which is how I know how many countries are in the mix. My ancestors obviously spread their seed far and wide). And to be very honest about it, I strongly consider myself to be an Oregonian first and an American second. But that’s just me. I’’ll meet you anytime, anywhere to discuss whatever you would like. But please understand, the beer has to be cold and that you’re going to find yourself preaching to the choir........
If you truly feel that way then why do you constantly label people as "white people" as if we are just one person. That can be perceived as a racist viewpoint.
If you're standing on the sidelines while my people are still getting killed, then you do deserve my anger. White silence equals violence against black people. When you stand on the sidelines idly while your fellow Americans are being killed in the streets you are then COMPLICIT with the racism. In 2020 it is not enough to simply not be racist. White people must actively be ANTI racist or you are part of the problem.
If that makes me and you Americans then why don't they call you European-american then? No, they call you white so that they can create a division between us. And you latch on to it and are proud of it. Proud of a word they changed the meaning of Simply to create division between you and I. I'm just not accepting of this... Why the hell is America so afraid to tell it's true history? Because we'd know that Thomas Edison's light bulb wasn't shit without Lewis Latimer's carbon filament. We'd know who the stoplight was invented by. We'd have known long ago how much black excellence it took to get to the moon.
