Firsthand doesn't mean "well, my family told me". That is completely the opposite of "firsthand" means.
K, so you must be down there in the midst witnessing everything firsthand. Otherwise, any other means of acquiring relative information is suspect.
OR, and hear me out, maybe the opinions of the people who actually *HAVE* witnessed it firsthand has a little more clout than those who don't seem to know what the word "firsthand" means and think that words from relatives who don't live in the city or probably visit downtown means "firsthand". Actually, that's kind of the point. Why do you think trials have "eyewitnesses" and not "heard it from his brother who heard it on the radio"?
Well, there's firsthand knowledge, then there's firsthand evidence. At any rate. to your point, I'm receiving most of my information from family members who are very close to the situation(s) there. That said, I'll certainly be very careful how to relate what I'm hearing from them for your sake in the matter(s).

Well, I would hope that people when they post here, want to be taken seriously or at least knowledgeable about something. But if they don't want to, I guess admitting you don't know what the concept of "firsthand" is, and that even though you are, by definition, wrong about it but still think you made a valid point, that's the way to go. I mean sure, you could just admit you're trolling people, but I don't think that's the case. I think you're either too stubborn to admit you're wrong about something OR don't know that you're actually wrong about something. Either way, maybe you should listen to the coach.

You seem to be confusing issues here. No where has anyone said you'd have NO knowledge, just that you don't know firsthand, and are just repeating what you've heard. It's called the telephone game. How would you feel passed on an opinion I have about the state of Tennessee, based on the fact I have relatives there who, for the most part, already share my opinion of how things are run? (There's that pesky confirmation bias again). i.e., "All of my relatives in Memphis told me that the Mayor of Nashville is a total joke! And I agree." And then when pressed for reasons why I feel that way, I just repeat it "I have relatives there! so I know" And then when I complain about someone being critical of me passing off incorrect (or inaccurate) information about the mayor (and can't back it up with anything other than "it's what I've been told"), they point out I haven't had firsthand knowledge of the situation (which is true, I don't have firsthand knowledge). Wouldn't you then think "well, I *live* in Nashville, maybe I know more about what is happening than those people who don't?" Or would you think "well, that's firsthand knowledge, and while it doesn't jive with what I, a person who actually lives there has experienced, nor does it match anything I've seen while driving through the city, I have to admit, they have firsthand knowledge of the situation"?? You were passing it off as though it was what you KNOW to be the case. Like, right now, I KNOW it to be the case that there is a car outside of my house. Hey ABM, there's a crappy car outside of my house. Your respond with "hey, there's a clunker car outside of julius' house! He told me!" "What kind of car is it? Why is it crappy?" "Well, my friend julius said it was a crappy car, so it's obviously a junker" Little did you know, maybe I just don't like that variety of car? Or maybe i don't like my neighbor who is parking there illegally? I know firsthand and can pass off that information as firsthand. You can't. You at best have secondhand knowledge of the situation, and being several thousand miles away, doesn't really give you credibility.
Are you not reading what i just wrote? I specifically referenced how you make a claim that you think the Mayor is an "abject failure", but fail to give any examples past "my relatives tell me so". I don't have time, nor the interest, to go over things you've said that you'll just ignore. So I'll just point out the most recent glaring example. Thing is, if you go back through the thread, you'll see that from the very start, people responded by saying they actually live here and what you're saying doesn't jive. Is it a conspiracy against you by the "liberals of the board" or is it that you are saying nonsense?

I've said own here 3 or 4 times that my family and I have been downtown, walks on the waterfront and dinner where the city is supposedly on fire. But you refuse to believe me. I've even posted pictures. Your family from CANBY must have a better pulse on the inner city vibe than me.
but you haven't given reasons why YOU PERSONALLY feel that way. You just posted anecdotal evidence. As for "think he's doing fine", you clearly haven't been paying attention. the difference is I actually have stated reasons why I feel he's a bad mayor, instead of relying on relatives and "surveys" and the like.
