No, I just don't see it on the West side of town although I seldom get downtown except to a nice restaurant occasionally. I was in NW Portland at the Star of Portland to pick up a great pizza and drove back to Lake Oswego by going up Broadway to i-405 to I-5 to Kruse Way. Never saw anything on that route. Sometimes we travel to East Vancouver to visit in-laws via I-205 and we see an alarming number of people living under bridges which I attribute to Republican policies and taxes or should I say lack of taxes.

Downtown is not as bad as it is being made out to be. The Northside from the waterfront to park Avenue is covered in tents and garbage. Homeless people are being allowed keep their tents set up down there now because of Covid. Once the pandemic passes that will be cleaned up as the homeless are forced out or again arrested for various things. (Which is no real way to deal with it). There are still many boarded up businesses and graffiti in parts of downtown. Again as the pandemic passes and downtown opens again and becomes a place for people to go shop and eat, etc it will get cleaned up. I have never felt unsafe there They need to build more transitional housing for the homeless. But, there will always be those who choose to stay on the streets. There will always be homeless people.

I'm sure Covid-19 has something to do with it, the vast majority of which I attribute to a once craving to be king Trump who didn't want any part of the complications of dealing with the disease.
Portland is no where near as bad as Detroit and it will never be. You want to see a real war zone, go to Detroit. You will be begging to come back to Portland who's biggest issue is an overpopulation of tents and trash. I'm not saying there isn't violence here. There is violence everywhere. But, its nothing here compared to Detroit or Chicago. The machete dude was one mentally ill person. There are no gangs of machete weilding people downtown. Its being made out worse than it is.
