I have seen this phenomenon dozens of times, for example in McMillan's last year here. A new player arrives on the team, having been coached by several past coaches in his career. He stands out because he doesn't quite fit the current coach's style. Months or a full season later, the player is now conforming to exactly what the coach wants, and has lost the skills he learned under other coaching systems. He is a worse player now.

I used to watch John Wooden ruin every high school superstar guard he got, with his only job for guards being passing to big men.

I think Ed is a paycheck player playing to his paygrade and probably a great locker room guy..beats Joel Freeland or Jared Jeffries coming off the bench at least...the rotations have not stopped searching for an identity...Stotts has played a ton of bench players looking for a spark and this season nothing is working...I think Ed is in wait and see and watch it unfold mode. He's been around the NBA block a bit.

Stotts was playing Ed and Meyers in alternating games until one proved himself. Meyers has played better so he won the spot. For now.

    Davis to Undergo Shoulder Surgery
Portland center to miss the remainder of the season
    Posted: Mar 01, 2017

Portland center Ed Davis will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder to repair an injured labrum, it was announced today by Neil Olshey, Trail Blazers president of basketball operations.

The procedure is scheduled to be performed next Tuesday by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

A specific prognosis will be determined for Davis following the procedure, but he is expected to be out for the remainder of the 2016-2017 season.

Davis originally injured the shoulder during the 2015-16 season and has progressively worsened.

Davis is averaging 4.3 points (52.8% FG), 5.3 rebounds and 17.2 minutes in 46 games (12 starts) this season.

That name is very familiar - is he the guy who fixed Greg Oden's knees?

Hopefully this explains his level of play this season. I'm glad he's getting it fixed and hopefully we can get Ed Davis back from last season.

No, that was Dr. Nick Riviera.
(You were probably thinking of Dr. Knee ReAttach.)
