I've been to a ton of professional baseball and football environments. They put the Rose Quarter experience to shame. Not the Rose Garden experience, but the over all fan experience of the area. However, I have not been to many NBA environments outside of Portland.

Not really fair to compare an NBA experience to one of an NFL or MLB team. totally different moods/experiences. MLB games can be more about the experience of city views, or the feel of the stadium. NBA really can't do that, especially with the majority of the games being at night (vs not at night for baseball)

NFL is a once a week thing, MLB is during the summer. I agree the Rose Garden area is pretty lame but believe me when I tell you that only Staples as of about 2 years ago and MSG in NYC have a great enviornment around the arena. MSG just cause it's in the middle of Manhattan.

Why was it a code violation 6 years ago? But not from 1995-2005? Was there a new code enacted or something? Doesn't make sense. It was in code when the Rose Garden was built. What changed?

It wouldn't be hard to improve the Rose Quarter environment. It's dead stale. Turn that damn kick ass fountain on, put in 2 bars minimum, have some live music going on outside the arena, and you've just improved the energy by a ton. During the playoffs the area is way better. They actually try during the playoffs. I just would love the area to be more vibrant and entertaining.

GOD DAMN! I'm not lying. It was no longer up to code and they didn't think it was worth fixing. On Thursday I will get to the bottom of it for you!

I don't want to know why it isn't working, I just want it fixed.

But the code thing is odd, usually when codes change things built previously are grandfathered in. They aren't shut down because of new codes.

And when it was built we know it was up to code.

Seriously? The RG is awesome! You can jump on a train from downtown PDX or Lloyd Center and be in a game crowd the entire time.

Have you ever been to Arco Arena? Talk about lame! It's in the middle of a subdivsion.

SLY must have promised a date she'd see a fire fountain at the game.

Things went badly once they saw the fountain...

I still like the Arco "experience" better than the Warriors. At least the people working there are cool. I swear, the Warriors always seem to have a bunch of people who stay up until 2 AM trying to figure out new ways to keep fans from having fun at games.

I don't know anything about the reason it's down, but there are reasons that it could be a code violation. If the City accepted the fountain when it was built, it was grandfathered in, but only as long as they didn't need to work on it. If they needed to do something to fix a major problem, the work would need a plumbing permit, among others. If there was a change to (probably fire) code, they could make you agree to bring it up to code before they would issue the required permits. If bringing it up to code was too big a problem, they would just let it be. Seems odd that the cost would be a problem to PA, though.

Just guessing, but there definately reasons that it could be a code violation.
