I'm not sure the guy who had his # retired, and was with the team for many years, was mentioned a lot due to his success in Sacramento, was brought up a lot by the media to replace Trader Bob when he finally was canned, and then again when Nash and Patterson finally got the boot, and again when Pritchard was fired, and again when Cho left, is really "forgotten".
I ran a sort by PER. Scanning down the list, at a 19.7 PER is the most forgotten great season...J.J. Hickson. http://bkref.com/tiny/NWLH2
Alvin Williams! We traded him for Damon Stoudamire and I was heartbroken. And that was when I thought Mighty Mouse was actually good.
Only in college. And maybe that one game where he hit the game-winner against the Lakers. The Vlade Divac, Sedale Threatt Lakers, that is.
Kenny was the first guy I thought of. He was the leading scorer on a 49 win team that also featured Sheed, Sabonis, J.R. Rider and Uncle Cliffy. He averaged 17.5 points, 7.1 assists and had a PER = 19.5 - those numbers are ALL better than anything Damon Stoudamire ever averaged in a Blazers uniform. Damon only posted PER > 16.6 once in his entire career. He had. PER of 18.1 his second season in Toronto. BNM
I looked at all the names proposed, and they were all good. But I did not see Buck Williams. The Blazers had been one and out for years, and then Buck shows up and we go the the Conference Finals 3 years in a row with 2 trips to the Finals.
No one has mentioned my favorite Blazer and 76 Championship MVP Bobby Gross. Which is good because it must mean he's not forgotten.
Tom Owens was just a few years before I started following the team, but watching the occasional classic game on Comcast, he seemed a cut from the modern day big man. He moved well for a center and could play on the perimeter. Had good skills in the paint. He seemed to contribute well in his time here and seems as good a candidate as any for this thread.
This... Rod was the only good player we had at times during the late 90s and we were still making the play offs every year some how. I really enjoyed watching him play for us.
He was awesome, the problem was Pacman totally relied on his athleticism and when injuries started creeping in he couldn't overcome them.
