You bring up a great point. Barkley might be right that Hawks are only a 1st/2nd round team the way they are currently constructed. Having said that, no GM is going to sit around and watch his teams flatten out and not move the coach. If the GM doesn't fire the coach and the team doesn't continue to grow, it's going to be his ass on the line. Firing Woodson and hiring a new coach would give the GM a couple more years of life.
The Cavs swept the Hawks last year too... Let's sit back one more round. I don't see a clear cut favorite yet in the East.
who won the cavs/magic series last year? the team that started the playoffs 8-0 or the team that was behind 2-1 and 3-2 in their first two series?
I think the magic will win a cavs/magic finals simply because while the cavs are bigger I think the magic are a deeper team and Nelson has been on fire recently. At the moment we don't even know if the cavs will reach the finals. Lebron arm is still injured which is effecting his game. If it was a healthy lebron then i'd pick the cavs to reach the finals.
They both should get fired, Woodsen because his team has turned a deaf ear...it happens to good coaches too Brown should get fired because I think he is an inferior coach in a good position ...and I dont know if Ive said it here, but far before the playoffs started I said ORL was gonna represent the east
What makes Bron dangerous is still available to him. He's shown he can use long range jumpers even in his condition, and he has something like 29+ PER against Boston. He plays better at home and he shoots from distance at a superior rate there. They won in Orlando this year as well. Overall I can understand why the Magic are a hot pick, but it'll be a closely contested series either way.
Classic. A thread about the firing of two coaches that have similar coaching styles to our own AssClown, made by someone who supports Nate.
Ok here is the way I see it: Cavaliers: 1. They added Jamison. But for all the hubub about adding Jamison, I don't think he is fitting in as fast as they wanted. He has more or less been turned into a 3 point shooter in the system, where he had a much more rounded game before. They haven't figured out how to utilize his post and faceup skills in the offense. 2. They added Shaq. The problem is, Shaq doesn't scare anybody anymore. He was added for one series, and one series only, Orlando, and I am not sure he will help them out. 3. The midget guard tandem problem. Last year Orlando won by exposing the Cavs guards. Mo an West are too small to keep up with larger perimeter players. That hasn't changed this year. Turkoglu is gone, but Carter is there, and Carter is probably even better at posting up small guards than Hedo was. He probably isn't as good as passer though. 4. Coaching. Brown is out coached all the time. He just has a great player to make up for it. Atlanta: 1. Team relies heavily on Johnson and Smith. The problem being for as stable as Johnson is, Smith isn't. He loses Mental focus easily, and coasts through parts of games. 2. No legit center. They are running Horford there, and he his doing a hell of a job. But they would be much better with a legit center and moving Horford to PF. 3. I believe Atlanta didn't win any regular season games against Orlando. Why did that expectation change in the playoffs? Considering I think Joe Johnson is going to leave Atlanta, I think the Hawks are going to find out a lot about his coaching ability, real soon. So that being said, I think I give the edge to Woodson with Brown being fired. Woodson wasn't supposed to achieve so much. Brown was.
A related question: would you like to eat the poop with, or without the corn kernels? (And I will use any mod powers at my disposal if who decides to image the above comment--no hard feelings )
did abm comment on whether or not he thought either guy should be fired or if he thought they were good coaches or not?
Mike Woodson has gone about as far as he can go with this team. He came very close to being fired a few years back but, for whatever reason, signed an extension instead! (Billy Knight was the token firing) Go figure Hawks' ownership. They've been a mess for a number of years now. Meanwhile, Brown is an average coach. His claim to fame is James. I guess I could equate him to Doug Collins when he was in Chi-Town. Who's better? Well, if the choice was between either of them to coach the Blazers I'd go with...................................................................NEITHER OF THEM! So, there ya have it. The classic ABM runaround.
I keep thinking of the "Coach of the Year" Demotivational Poster for Mike Brown. Him sitting there in a Nate-esque "hands-on-hips, incredulous look on his face" pose, and the caption: Coach of the Year Guidelines: 1. Have LeBron James on your team 2. Wear a suit.
