The thread title says "who will make the jump this season". For that I think CJ will make the biggest "jump", from being injured and barely playing to surprising some people and contributing this season.

However, the poll asks who "will see time in the regular rotation". I went with TRob, because he has no one ahead of him off the bench at PF and I expect him to be better than last season.

Now I'm sure the season is getting close! Why not start at the top?

I think both Barton and CJ will show huge improvements over last season.
Same with Joel, but he's not young.
And Robinson already started showing his progress last season - I think he'll just build on that.
I think we've got a really solid team. The only place where we're thin is SF. Given the depth at SG and PF I wonder if we might try to make a trade for a SF by packaging a SG & PF. Unless we play Barton at SF we don't have enough minutes for Wes, CJ and Barton. Or LMA, Robinson and Freeland...or Lopez, Kaman and Leonard. I think at least two of those 3rd stringers will show enough improvement that they'll NEED game minutes in order to keep developing, and I'm not so sure Stotts will be able to give them the necessary minutes. But I'd really love to see us keep everyone under 30mpg, and play all the guys that deserve to play.

Can you point out 10 teams that have a better backup SF than Dorell Wright? We are not as bad off at the 3 as you and others suggest.

Wouldn't it be great if Dorell Wright made the biggest 'jump' in performance this season? :)

That would be great as he was the biggest let down last year.

Good point. But that's only because there's so little SF (and SG) talent in the league, so everyone with even a little talent is automatically a starter. But surely there are a few back-up SFs that were better than Wright. Wright was a HUGE disappointment last season. Was Mike Miller a back-up? How about Tyreke Evans? I don't really keep track of other team's rosters any longer. And then there are guys who are starting on bad teams that really ought to be back-ups.

My thinking on this is that depth at any position is only important relative to other teams' depth at the same, because the primary goal is to outperform opponents. If the overall talent pool is very shallow, but we're near the deep end of that shallowness, then we're doing as well as can be expected.

That and I can see Matthews sliding over to 3 at times as well. Wright only needs to give us around 10 minutes a game. I'm confident he can do this.

The only thing I was really disappointed with last season was his three point shooting. But I think that had more to do with everyone else being so good.

Yeah, I get that. I just want Nic (and all starters) playing fewer minutes, and based on last season I'm not comfortable with Wright filling in for Nic.
Anyway - it was the only weak spot in the roster, that's all I was saying. Aside from that I think we're quite strong going 2-3 deep at all other positions.

I hope so. He never really got going last year.
