I have a feeling tomorrow morning is going to be nuts... I feel we'll make 2 trades. One small, one big.
Odd, I have the opposite feeling. Well, it'll be nuts, but it'll be like draft day. This place will go ape shit and we'll have certain posters write "letters" to Neil or Paul Allen, and a lot over overreacting.
Neither scenario would surprise me. I could see us not doing a thing, and I could also see Olshey blowing it up. I mean I think Neil will blow it up regardless, but it might wait until the summer.
We already have a good shot at making playoffs. That deal would give us a good shot at winning when we get there.
The Cousins trade wasn't fair market value, it was an incredibly awful one-sided trade. Just as the Boston/New Jersey trade didn't set the market for declining veterans at "your franchise's future for the next decade," the Cousins trade is a one-off and won't be the baseline for anything.
So you're saying that Drummond and Stanley Johnson are worth 3 players and 3 1st round picks (including 1 in the lotto)? Even if you take into account Festus hasn't played (and is just a salary dump)?
Well, in my opinion, two not-very-good players, an expiring contract, two not-very-good first round picks and one good first-rounder. I don't think Detroit even considers that package, personally. I wouldn't, in their place.
I wouldn't if I was Detroit, but if I was Portland, I wouldn't offer it in the first place. That's not to say I think the 3 players are great, and the 3 picks are sure fire anything, but that it's 6 potential players for 2, and the group of 2 isn't franchise changing or even really anything special.
I feel the same way about my impending dumps tomorrow. I ate a big tacqueria burrito for lunch and I had a couple of handfuls of peanuts for a snack.
That's the spirit. I just hate half-a-pound of turkey lunch-meat, a cheese sandwich, carrots, and a chocolate muffin. Not looking forward to that dump.....but it was so worth it. Ahem....trades....I dunno. Haven't been following the headlines. But let's get a PF to go with Nurk.
The problem with Drummond is that if we don't offer either CJ or Lillard, and the chances are we won't, then none of our other players are that attractive to Pistons. They will never take Crabbe if they are willing to resign KCP for similar money as they are similar players, only Caldwell Pope is much better. They won't be interested in Harkless or Aminu because they got similar but better players in Marcus Morris and Tobias Harris. All our half decent tradeable players are not the kind they will want to have, so that comes down to the picks. Is three picks a good enough incentive for them? Unless they trade KCP for a big, then replace him by trading Drummond for Crabbe and picks. They could for example get Brook Lopez or Nerlens Noel for KCP comfortably, probably with some sweet additions too, and then have Lopez/Noel, Crabbe and a bunch of picks. That does look good.
BTW I don't think we should completely close ourselves to the possibility of trading CJ. If someone like Drummond is made available then it's definitely worth a thought, especially if we can get Detroit to give us more (CJ's value will be higher than Drummond this year I think). If for example we could end this conversation by getting them to give us both Drummond and Caldwell-Pope for CJ and other pieces, then it's obviously a move we should be accepting. I am not saying trade CJ, I am saying when another team asks for him then at least start the conversations because it might turn out they value him much higher than he's actually worth. We will have two shooting guards making starter money next year. This year our starting SG makes bench money and our backup SG makes starter money. We cannot keep them both. If the return for CJ could solve both our frontcourt problems, we MUST consider it. Having Drummond in this team would immediately change us. Nurkic is a fine talent and I think he'll still develop with Drummond here, he has a good range and could even share the court with him for a few minutes per game, and fill in when Andre is tired. He'd still be getting 18-22 minutes a game if we use our rotation well. Drummond would be getting 15 rebounds a game here easily.
Pistons know they are not winning anything anytime soon and want to see what value they can get for Drummond. He's very young though (23) and his development will still take a few years so I'm surprised they are even considering this. Free throws aside he is an absolute monster of a player.
