we have probably the worst front line in the NBA, we suck, and we dished out 150 mil to Crabbe and ET, and unfortunately 40 mil to a worthless meyers
wait until you see what role players get paid next season....10 mill will look like chicken feed and 18 will look like good role player money...
I'm not buying it. Salary cap projections have been lowered significantly. It's not like there is going to be an un-ending flow of additional money to continue to play marginal players $15+M per year.
There are only a handful of players starting that will not be overpaid next season.....the salary cap went up...not down
So move Meyers. Again he only makes 9 million a year. Harkless also only makes 9 million a year. There is 18 right there. ET might make a few million too much, but teams value him. Hell I value him and want to keep him. Crabbe can flat out shoot and has played well as of late. Teams will take him. If not this year, next year. The cap is not going down
We paid an old Marcus Camby 13.3 million for basically 7 decent games in the lock out season...that's overpaying. ..and the cap was much lower back then
Just because other teams are going to be locked in to bad deals, doesn't really change the fortunes of the Blazers. Secondly, when you are paying a player with iffy defense and a meager 11 PER 18-19 million a year (Allen Crabbe) that's a shitty ROI, that would be a bad ROI if he was getting paid half that money.
I think it'll come down to "we're not going over the luxury tax line this season unless we instantly become legitimate title contenders."
I agree, and would try to keep him while shedding other contracts somehow over the next year or two. However if there is a GM out there who values him as much as you do and is willing to give value back, in the form of a three-of-our guys for a first tier player, then I would move Plumlee.
No $hit Sherlock. I could of told you that and I have zero sauces. Geez, where can a guy get a real pie these days.
The money is all relative. I am guessing many GM's are just as interested in his 44% from beyond the arc than they are his PER. Put him on a team who desperately needs that skill set and they will be happy with their ROI. Assuming they are winning. Right now we are not winning, so fans are not happy with anyone making huge money.
Looks as if you just tried to slip that in there, TB. But this is something I have been very curious about for years. I had always speculated that it might have been Pritchard who wanted Durant, solely because of a remark he made about Durant being an "assassin", which I know is not something he would have ever thought about Oden. But are you saying you have a solid, well-placed source who says it was Allen who wanted Durant?
I know it's said a sucker is born every minute, but at that price I'm guessing GMs around the league would be happier drafting a guy who was nothing but a shooter in college and gambling that he'll give you as much production as Crabbe does, at a fraction of the cost. We'll see what happens I guess.
I wouldn't worry about it. We have had this discussion before but has PA ever let someone walk for nothing....that he wanted to keep? He will match and then dump contracts if needed. Unless they find a better option at center before then.
What gets overlooked is even though the cap will go up, it will likely be by ca. $10M which means that teams that are reaching the limit now will have extra 11% to spend. Last year it went up by $24M (more than 30%) which basically forced teams to spend significant money and choose from free agency class of last year. Very few teams actually kept that money (Denver did). Cap going up by $10M from already higg $94M will not have the same effect as cap going up $24M from the level of $70M. $19M Crabbe will be making next year will still be close to 20% of cap and it's not the sort of money you should be paying to a bench player.
