<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (noballer07 @ Jun 27 2007, 01:00 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I am by no means blaming our ills solely on slavery. I am just presenting a logical opinion that has been said by many historians about the domino effects of it on black males. I agree with you that some men think they can mess with whoever they want, but ask yourself this question- who did they have to teach them that that was wrong? Hell, their father might have even been a womanizer that ran out on them. It's all about a domino effect. I don't know how I can explain that any more clearly to you. And you say segregation was sooo long ago that it shouldn't have an effect on blacks...The last Civil Rights act was passed in 1964. Segregation kept black families as a whole from advancing, and only in the 80's and 90's have the first generations of African Americans been fully admitted into college and have actually gone somewhere. You act as if the Civil Rights Act made everything OK as soon as it was passed- NO. If Jim Crow laws and the KKK hadn't been so prevalent- or even hadn't sprung up at all- we'd be much more advanced as a race than we are now.</div>I understand the idea of a domino effect and how it could work, but I don't believe that human relationships work in such a robotic fashion. Like I said with slavery, it is so far back that what you're saying isn't logical. There were tons of people that were oppressed in the last 130 years (as examples, the Irish, Asian, and Mexican immigrants). By your logic, there should be people of all races having parenting problems. Same goes for segregation. Mexicans were lynched just the same at one point in time. The college thing particularly jumps out at me since neither of my parents went to college. My brother didn't go to college, nor did my grandma or grandpa on my mom's side. I know my grandma has a masters in some teaching field, but other than that, I'm pretty much one of the first to go to college. College was not incredibly important until maybe 20-25 years ago. And this is what I'm talking about... this is why I think it's an illogical reasoning for how family relationships grow. If you seriously believe that a guy is going to leave his family because he can't go to college or because some white guys give him sh*t all the time, I suppose you can have that opinion. I think there's a much stronger correlation between socioeconomic background and parenting abilities, even moreso with education and parenting abilities (I'd place a big bet that the difference between high school dropouts and high school graduates is a much bigger difference than high school grads and college grads/some college).Anyway, I think the slavery thing is a pretty poor, weak, mechanical explanation for organic relationships between people that develop and grow in different ways. I can see how the racial issues might have effect on the last generation, but I think it's a pretty weak explanation for parenting in the 90's and 2000's.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DTP @ Jun 27 2007, 01:05 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Mhm, I'm a troll. Everyone, I'm a troll. No seriously, white people are always sticking nasty sh*t in their mouths or eatting/drinking off whoever. People in my school for example, dude ate about 5 pieces of gum off the bottom of an school desk for $1. White girls are always sharing gum, one will take it out of their mouth and take a piece of it and give it to the other girl and she'll just chew it like normal. I mean how in the hell can you do that? White people are always drinking/eatting off each other too, I don't even eat/drink off my own family let along people from school. If its not my girlfriend or granny I don't drink off them.</div>I have never ate or drunk off of a person's body. If you are talking about body shots or some kind of freaky food fetish, then I must admit that I would try that with a lady friend. As for chewing gum off the bottom of a school desk, I have never seen anyone do that. It seems to be what is called an "isolated incident." I personally wouldn't do it. I have no idea what would compel a person to do it, either. Unless you've seen multiple white people do it, or can prove somehow by the grace of God that no black person has ever done it, I don't see what it has to do with race.I have never chewed someone else's gum. Okay, well there was that one time when my ex had to use her mouth for something else, but that was ONE TIME. I've never seen anyone share gum for the sake of sharing gum. Most normal people take their own.

However, when you say the Germans dominted in swimming I take it you mean the East Germans in the 70s/80s. This was one of the most famous drugs scandals in history. They didn't win because Hitler tried to vreate a master race! They won because their coaches gave them 'supplements' everyday.

You talked about that 130 year cushion as if it wasn't full of pins designed to control and perhaps destroy us psychologically. Until very recently, racial superiority was the written law of the land. It wasn't that long ago that Strom Thurmond was running for president to keep it that way. The Republican Party still resents the sixties, a decade of not just hippies, but spiteful strides in civil rights, a country vomiting it's own hypocrisy. Ask Strom Thurmond; he stayed in the Senate until he was 100.Many people argue that this great country's legal system was built on the Bible. But racism made law was right there. You can't ignore the effects of these laws on freed slaves; legally subhuman pariahs. All the way to the seventies I found it interesting that BluffCity referenced the Black Panthers as J. Edgar Hoover, a man of dubious white lineage, infiltrated and criminalized black political action committees, religious organizations, and communities with spies and drug dealers. Frame ups were common to the leadership. Black men learned something back then, so soon after King and Malcolm got shot. Hell, Fred Hampton. The message was clear. If you believe in and try to help you will be killed and imprisoned, infiltrated and broken apart. The interagency operation was named COINTELPRO and the program survived to the eighties. Then the laws just got quiet and reformed for political necessity, and black men started going to jail by the truckload. Personally, I don't think the Drug War is really on "Drugs."Slavery itself inadvertently broke up families for profit at the very formation of the "Black American Family." The idea that family is something very tenuous and prone to the breakup of another's whimsy has never really been addressed seriously in the last 40 or so years.
