I get what you're saying, but it's still stereotypical thinking. The white kid from Appalachia doesn't have the same "privilege" as a white kid from a more affluent area of the country. There are plenty of country clubs where white riffraff like me would have trouble getting membership. Old money looks down on new money. Doctors and lawyers get more social perks because of their career status. For some reason, there's a need in certain precincts to label every social phenomenon. White privilege seems to be the label that's being pushed right now. I don't like it because it's not really accurate to say all whites have privilege, and because it becomes an easy shorthand description for complex problems. It's often said with a sneer (check your white privilege) in a way that plays on divides instead of working towards unity. What this country needs desperately is a great leader than can help move us towards unity instead of divisiveness. Those kinds of leaders seem to be in short supply.
