Yeah, with just a bit of analysis into this I don't think we can swing anything cute on the TPE front. But I don't know that we solved MIA's problem for them. First, since we're sending out Mo and Meyers, it's an aggregated trade. Because neither one could get Whiteside by himself salarywise (and they barely do aggregated), it's a simultaneous trade (125% of outgoing salary +100k). Now, before the trade with us, MIA had to send out 26.08M to PHI to complete the trade. Richardson is only 10.1, so they had to find a way to send out at least another 16M. They'd been looking to move Dragic, but that stalled out. Enter us. They get Leonard and Hark, but can't trade either within two months. So technically, I guess they could "have a deal in place" and execute it September 7 where they send Meyers and Mo with Richardson for Jimmy, but PHI doesn't want to take on 22M they don't have to for the privilege of giving up Butler. There's a realm where this becomes a 4-teamer (with someone like DAL using cap space) but that gets really messy. Guess it's just a straight-up, ho-hum trade. Butler's salary starts (if you believe the 4/141M number) at 32.7M. Richardson (10.1) , Whiteside (27.1), Meyers (11.0), Hark (11.3) are others involved
the media's consensus seems to be a good deal for Miami, it seems , as we all know, Hassan had attitude problems, so it's good for Portland that it's a, potentially short term contract. hopefully hassan whitesides will love it here in Portland and leaves the attitude in Miami
I don't think Myers was going to re-sign with us anyway; he's really too good for us, now that I think about it......
It depends on when Nurk can actually come back and be his old self, which honestly won't be next season. It's probably a full year injury to recover from fully, so best case scenario he might be back to his old self by the playoffs, so he'd be coming off the bench if at all next season. And then when he's healthy the following, whiteside is gone anyways. So it's a good situation to be in.
George also injured his leg mid august which is 5 months later and closer to the start of the season. He was able to return in April which is a little over 7 months. Nurk will be on his 7th month at the start of the season In addition, each person recovers differently as well and injuries can be similar but different. George had a metal rod inserted as well and don't know if Nurkic had one inserted or not. Only time will tell when he can play.
Pretty good hands, crazy reach. Obviously a lob threat which we really haven't had. Not going to make a lot of passes out of it, but beggars can't be choosers and dunks are good lol Whiteside's ranks in NBA.com's "roll man" classification... 15-16: 94.1 percentile 16-17: 83.9 percentile 17-18: 49.8 percentile 18-19: 85.2 perecentile
George returned in about 8 months and was a shell of the player he used to be. He wasn't back to himself till the following season. And, he's about 70 pounds lighter than Nurkic, which matters a lot the point was that Whiteside might be needed as a Blazer C for the entirety of next season because Nurkic might not be close to the player he was till the following season, and Portland will be in win-now mode, not win-a-year- from-now mode
He only played 6 games that season. Hardly enough to judge how long before he was playing at a higher level and the Pacers didn't make the playoffs that year so who knows how much better he might have played. You like the doom and gloom and I prefer the positive outlook but the bottom line, it hasn't been determined yet how long he will be out and where his game will be at. The Whiteside deal just adds some insurance and the ability to take the time necessary for Nurkic to return. I will continue just do the wait and see and not predict a negative.
I'm old so "I'll be hitting y'all lines" has a VERY different meaning to me. #scarface #theworldismine
