Bale almost ruined Dark Knight for me. That's such an awesome movie, but I thought he was horrible in it.
Then you have a short attention span. Donnie Brasco, Ed Wood, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas are all really good movies that you are missing out on. Sure, I'll give you that his latest films haven't been any good but he's still a decent actor. Also, if you let one voice ruin a whole movie for you then that's just sorry.
I do have a short attention span when it comes to terrible acting. Those movies you listed are pretty good, but IMO they would be better with another actor. And voice? what are you talking about? I didn't say anything about a voice.
You said Christian Bale ruined The Dark Knight for you. I'm assuming it was the voice, but I guess you think it was bad acting. I completely disagree, but whatever I really don't care.
Have you seen American Psycho? I thought he was a great actor in that. Got the yuppie thing down. I thought The Dark Knight was only somewhat above average, just in general. The script wasn't done well, and it was a little silly. The ending was anti-climatic and too abrupt for all the plot twists. They forgot about the main characters.
Haven't seen a ton of Depp's stuff but Blow is fucking awesome. Gilbert Grape too. Donnie Brasco was boring though. With Bale you really can't judge him on his Batman roles. There isn't a whole lot of room to show anything IMO. His Batman voice is fuggin pathetic but outside of that the character is pretty straightforward acting wise. We all know Bale plays a good yuppie and when hes actually in the suit there isn't a whole lot of acting/emotion required. There wasn't even a good chance for him to show some emotion after the chick died in TDK, not his fault as an actor its just that the script doesn't call for him to do much IMO other than whoop people's asses and act like a rich bitch. American Psycho showed some diversity outside of just his ability to play a yuppie. Harsh Times was way overlooked but he played a crazy mofo in it and did well. He was also good in Rescue Dawn and 3:10 to Yuma. The Machinist too. All these movies convey how good of an actor he is better than TDK. Yeah the Batman voice was annoying but his character is limited to talking as a yuppie and spouting out corny ass lines in a raspy voice.
Blame direction(even though Nolan you're the man). If Nolan wanted him to stop doing the voice, it would have been different in the first film.
