Not at all. Wasn't picked high enough to complain about. You have to follow. WABC and Syracuse in the lottery is a no no
Drives into digging defenders / tunnel vision on drives, straight line driver, not a fluid or creative handler. Passing has never impressed me. Aggressive in transition and will make hit ahead passes, but doesn't make high level reads in the half court. Most are obvious due to the attention he draws from defenses. To put it simply, he just makes way too many "what the hell are you doing?" plays to make think very highly of him in this area. And are we even sure Hutch can hit threes? Next to no track record before this year and a career 69% ft shooter.
FT shooting isn't indicative of 3pt shooting. The dude has good form and is an extremely hard worker so he should be a good shooter based off that alone. Dames passing at Weber State didnt impress me either... You also got to realize Hutchison was playing at Boise State. He has vision and I expect him to be more unselfish and more of a willing passer at the next level. Small school players usually feel like they have to do everything themselves because, well, they usually have to. It seems to me that Hutchison never passed the ball to guys because he had more confidence in him going 1v2 than in his teammates, and that was probably justified. Same with Dame in college. That'll change. I don't see where you get the negative notion about him not being "fluid" or "creative" with his handle. He keeps it simple and will use a crossover or two to read the defender and then go. Just because he's not out here isolating and using strings of 5-6 CJ McCollum-like crossovers isn't a bad thing. As a SF for this team, you want a guy that can shoot, attack closeouts and finish well in traffic around the rim, as well as provide a secondary ball handler, as well as defends at a very high level. Hutchison can do all of that. He could easily be a 15ppg guy. Worrying about him being 22 compared to 19 or 20 is silly. We saw this with Vonleh: work ethic and the ability to learn is more important in regards to player development than age... Hutchison has high marks in those. There's nothing he can't learn to do because his foundation as a player is so goddamn solid.
Just not a big fan of him and it looks like you are. That's what's shaping these arguments. I'm not blind towards his context (as I covered in my previous posts) or his positive qualities as a prospect. I'm just not as confident in both his college strengths translating and his weaknesses developing as you seem to be. Let's check back in in about 5 years lol.
I mentioned plenty of guys I liked in last years draft. But even if I'm a fan of a player, I still recognize that none of these kids are perfect, especially non-lottery talents. Basically, I'm more interested in figuring out both the "why and why not" of these guys and less so the "if" because there is so much context that goes into into the "if". There's no fault in that. Call it being a pessemist--I prefer realist--you can call it whatever you want. It's just a different perspective on the draft/scouting.
It only makes sense to point out the ones that stand out, and why they do. Most prospects won't amount to mich, so find the gem that's buried in the dirt, don't talk about how dirty the gem is!
I seem to remember the guys you were highest on in the late first through late 2nd round last draft were Justin Jackson (although he went earlier than you thought he would), Kadeem Allen, P.J. Dozier. Is that pretty close to correct?
Liked Jackson in the 20s. Thought Allen had borderline first round value, and Dozier was my biggest sleeper in the draft. Still way too early to judge these guys but the early returns arent great.
Last year I was so much more into the draft process because of the 3 picks. I really, really, really wanted Jeanne but unfortunately he was diagnosed with that Marfan Syndrome. I was so disappointed because all of my scenarios involved making sure we got him. If we stayed put I wanted some combo of John Collins, OG, Ojeleye, Swanigan, or using one of the picks on Giles since we had 3. Moving up I wanted Mitchell. Zach Collins would've been okay with me if he fell to 15 but I was pissed we gave up 20 to get him. I also thought Jayson Tatum would be the best player in the draft.
